Anonymous Coward User ID: 1102470 United States 09/24/2010 04:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | On Tuesday night 2km of the river Iska in Slovenia disappeared and left behind fish on dry ground. The residents are saying that they heard a huge bang in the night. It sounds like they are describing it as a possible earthquake-like sound although there was no tremor. One woman said that it was like a huge detonation, as if something big had crashed onto the ground. People went out of their homes to see what was falling down, only to witness the river being drained. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1108510To make this story even more strange, last week there were devastating floods in Slovenia and this river like all others was flooding land and properties. Could it be that some strange technology is being tested here for flood defence purpose? The official explanation is that due to the karst nature of the terrain the river went underground through this tiny hole (see pictures in link below), but the residents are highly sceptical as they have never witnessed anything like that ever (bearing in mind this river has flooded many times before). For pictures (language is Slovenian): 24ur.com... The first part of the official news story (from link above) translates as: "On Tuesday night the river Iska vanished between the villages of Iska Vas and Strahomer."... (Now here comes the official explanation)... "Slovene Environment Agency statement says that the water is flowing into the underground chamber underneath the water bed. This is the way the river disappears and reappers later down stream. This time this characteristic of the river is stronger because of the damages to the river bed." Earthquakes have been known to not only drain rivers but make them begin to flow in the opposite direction as well. Has anyone checked out to see if any earthquakes were reported near Slovenia during that time period? |

Mack User ID: 1104413 United States 09/24/2010 09:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All of this activity took place more than a thousand feet underground, and there was nothing at the surface except a small opening where clouds of bats emerged every evening. The whole place was like another world underground, simply big beyond belief. One room was so large that a hot air ballon was used by scientists to explore the upper wall and ceiling openings. It was all like Jules Verne down there, and I could not literally believe what I saw. So there is absolutely room enough for an entire river to migrate to a new underground channel if a large enough breadown occurred in the roof of one of a series of hidden chambers in Slovenia that opened up access for the water. Anonymous Coward User ID: 377864 United States 09/24/2010 09:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All of the water and its contents were gone. Despite the fact this strange incident took place more than two years ago, word is just now getting out about it. As word is finally starting to spread across the internet, UFO enthusiasts and paranomalists are putting forth theories as to how something like this could have happened. This wasn’t a small lake or pond, either---it was approximately five miles long! Located in Patagonia, Chile, the last time geologists saw it was in March 2007 and nothing appeared strange or different about it at all. What could have happened within just two short months? How could a giant lake disappear out of nowhere? In addition to the lake simply vanishing, a river that flowed from the lake was reduced to a very small stream. When this story first broke, many people thought it was just a hoax, and indeed it does seem too bizarre to be true. It is true, however, despite how baffling it is. Apparently the icebergs were still left behind---intact, despite the fact that the water was gone. Geologists also report huge cracks at the bottom of the pit. Did the water somehow drain through the cracks? Was there some sort of earthquake? Why then were the icebergs fine? One glacier specialist, Andres Rivera, explained to a Chilean newspaper that the lake itself did not even exist three decades ago. So, is it possible that the landscape in that part of the world is reforming itself? Geologists and glacier specialists are currently doing tests to see what they can find out about the bizarre landscape in that area. While some are holding out to see if there could be any scientific explanation about what happened, some media reports are trying to claim that the water was actually drained by UFO’s! Is this just media sensationalism, or something more? Whether there is a scientific explanation for what happened or paranormal, only time will tell. This isn’t the first time a lake disappeared out of nowhere. There have been a few instances in the past where an earthquake caused water to drain. The only problem with this theory in this case in point is that there had been no reports of any earthquakes in that particular area in spring of 2007. |
