I think its' Squariness is better shown in this image [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] make sure to zoom in on the region,crazy.

Between 0 to less than 30. With the link below, you can see it takes a full day to jump from -60 to -45.

My question is: At what point on the above map is all activity fully earth facing and not just a glancing blow? Talking solar flares here as filaments are like a shot gun and scatter in a wider direction. I should know this, probably have known this, but can't think of where it is at the moment. Brain fog

Any Flares that occur on the Earth-facing disc are Geo-effective as the X-Rays are just Light(albeit extreme Light)and Light as you know radiates in all directions less' it is blocked by a object.

Some Flares can be Geo-effective when not on the Earth-facing disc,this though is usually dependent on Magnetic Tethers and 'Portals'.

If you see any Flare on the GOES X-Ray it is Geo-effective,if it wasn't it wouldn't have reached the instrument.

I should have mentioned before,a well placed Sunspot ie. Center-disc can have a greater effect potentially than one from the limb,but it still holds true that all Flares registered by GOES are Geo-effective and any Flare on the Earth facing disc is always Geo-effective,just the location of its' origination can have a bearing on the intensity recorded,if you see what I mean!?

Yes,from what I can see it looks like this region/s have actually decayed slightly in the last Hours,though 1625(the region at the top of 1623)is still throwing fits,though very minor [link to halpha.nso.edu] [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] .

The X-rays are below C Flaring for a little while [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] with the threshold still around the B3 level.

I hope our 66 is ok - Doesn't she Live in New Jersey?

I'm okay . (I'm in upstate NY, MASS/CONN border) PC crashed, and had to do a full recovery again ..... pisses me off. Just got to come and check the thread.
