Yes on 37 Launches Major TV Ad Buy with Positive Message: Food is Love
by Leslie Fulbright
October 26, 2012

After 25 days of blistering attacks, Prop 37 still leads polls

Oakland – After withstanding 25 days of deceptive attack ads that have gone unanswered, the Yes on 37 California Right to Know Campaign today launched a seven-figure television ad buy with a positive message that tells the true story of Proposition 37, which would be the first law in the nation to require widespread labeling of genetically engineered food.

“It’s all very simple: Food is a sacred part of our lives. We absolutely have a right to know if our food comes from nature, or if it was genetically engineered in a lab by companies like Monsanto and Dow,” said Stacy Malkan, media director of Yes on Proposition 37 California Right to Know campaign.

“Nice Shirt—Is that GM Cotton?” – How Genetically Modified Cotton is Taking Over

Elizabeth Renter
Thursday, November 1, 2012
Activist Post

There is a very good chance that if you’ve bought anything made of cotton within the last several years, you have indirectly, and most likely unknowingly, supported the GMO industry. That’s because it is estimated that 90 percent of cotton produced worldwide is now genetically modified. While GM cotton likely won’t hurt you, the concern is that we, as consumers, haven’t been kept informed of the presence of these crops and their byproducts in our lives.

5 Powerful Healing Properties of Garlic
Anthony Gucciardi
Thursday, November 1, 2012
Activist Post

It’s not as colorful or alluring as many fruit and vegetable superfood varieties, but garlic is actually one of the most powerful healing foods that you can include in your daily diet. I’ve written about garlic in the past, specifically covering the many ways in which this common food can protect against cancer and infections. While significant (and extremely easy to take advantage of), these are only a few of the key benefits garlic has to offer.

Here are the top 5 healing properties of garlic that put many pharmaceutical drugs to shame:

PSA: Trust Us ... Vote Yes on GMO Labeling (Prop 37)
Saturday, November 3, 2012
Activist Post

The scientific debate is over - GMO's kill - so perhaps now it is time to just laugh in the corporate faces of mega-chemical companies like Monsanto and DuPont and expose them for the arrogant pyschopaths that they are. However, let us not forget that they are treating the human population of the world like lab rats ... literally. The right to know what we are ingesting should be a basic human right. GMOs have crossed the line in the most profound way possible, since even "organic" foods are susceptible to unknown cross-contamination.

The following video is humorous and necessary, but let us not view it as merely gallows humor; it should galvanize us to realize what a pathetic and weak system we are opposing. They have the money behind them, but not the truth.

The Non-GMO Shopping Guide
07 November 2012

Do you know which foods in your grocery story contain GMO’s? If you are like most of us, the answer is likely “no”. Unless the FDA mandates that all “Genetically Modified Organism” food be labeled, consumers will not likely have a clue to what is in their food. The good news is there’s a “phone app” for that and a downloadable shopping list to help you guard against these products.

The downloadable Non-GMO Shopping Guide, ( [link to nongmoshoppingguide.com] ) specifically details the currently known food products containing GMO’s. If you are unaware of which foods contain these detrimental GMO’s, then download the free app or list to help make it easier for you to avoid them.

Consumers are becoming more aware of the damaging effects linked to food and products treated with “Genetically Modified Organism’s” (GMO) and their potential negative outcome on your future health. Chemicals (aka pesticides) injected into plants and animals (from cultivation to production), are used as a method of preserving and producing food, while becoming very common in America.

Monsanto Crams GMOs Down California’s Throat
Barbara H. Peterson

Never underestimate the apathy of the American public.
I have to admit it. I allowed myself to be optimistic about Prop. 37, the GMO Right to Know direct democracy initiative in California. I forgot one crucial thing. Most people simply do not care to know what they eat just as long as it tastes good. They also do not care that their choices affect everyone else’s right to choose as well.

Who cares, right? Says the smoker who lights up in his child’s room, never once thinking about the harm being caused to those developing lungs, or the future habits being imprinted on such a young psyche. Shame on you! Shame on all of you who put ignorance ahead of truth and made the conscious decision to forfeit everyone’s right to know what the hell they are putting in their mouths when they trustingly go to the corner store and purchase that toxic box of GMO corn flakes, or that factory farmed genetically engineered salmon, or eat any number of GMO processed foods, which comprise 85% percent of what is on our grocery store shelves. And that’s only the products we know about. Who the hell cares? Obviously not 53% of California voters.

Washington County Bans Growing of GMOs
Anthony Gucciardi - Naturalsociety.com
Monday, November 12, 2012
Activist Post

While some anti-GMO legislation like Prop 37 was shot down through corporation-funded projects and deceptive campaign tactics, one county in Washington state was massively successful in establishing a landmark ruling against Monsanto and GMO crops as a whole. The concerned citizens of San Juan County were able to pass what is known as Initiative Measure No. 2012-4, which actually bans the growth of genetically modified organisms within the county.

And it doesn’t just affect traditional GMO crops.

According to the writing within the legislation, the Initiative actually protects against the growth and cultivation of any genetically modified organism — even animals which have been genetically modified.

This specific wording is key when considering that the act of genetic modification is no longer specific to crops. While it is true that crops have been the major focus of GMO cultivation, with upwards of 90 plus percent of corn now reportedly being altered, new disturbing and outlandish biotech projects that twist the genetic coding of more advanced life are becoming much more frequent.

How Dangerous Is Genetically Modified Food?
Alex Daley
Monday, November 12, 2012
Casey Research

Last month, a group of Australian scientists published a warning to the citizens of the country and of the world who collectively gobble up some $34 billion annually of its agricultural exports. The warning concerned the safety of a new type of wheat.

As Australia's number-one export, a $6-billion annual industry, and the most-consumed grain locally, wheat is of the utmost importance to the country. A serious safety risk from wheat – a mad wheat disease of sorts – would have disastrous effects for the country and for its customers.

Which is why the alarm bells are being rung over a new variety of wheat being ushered toward production by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) of Australia. In a sense, the crop is little different than the wide variety of modern genetically modified foods. A sequence of the plant's genes has been turned off to change the wheat's natural behavior a bit, to make it more commercially viable (hardier, higher yielding, slower decaying, etc.).

After GMO Labeling Shot Down, Citizens Start Labeling Products Themselves
Anthony Gucciardi
Thursday, November 15, 2012
Natural Society

Activists and concerned citizens around the world have had enough with corrupt corporations censoring their right to know what’s in their food, and frankly they’re beyond upset. And if the government will not side with the 90 plus percentage of consumers who are in favor of GMO labeling, then they’re going to do it themselves.

As it turns out, many are doing just that through the ‘DIY’ GMO labeling campaign known as ‘The Label It Yourself Campaign’. Sporting a skull with cornstalks for crossbones, the DIY labels inform customers as to whether or not a product ‘may’ include GMO ingredients or most certainly does.

Below is one label taken from the campaign website that activists are now placing on products found in grocery stores, homes of friends and family (to incite discussion), and just about everywhere else:

Payback Time: Boycott the Brands that Helped Kill Prop 37
By Ronnie Cummins, Director Organic Consumers Association/Organic Consumers Fund
November 15, 2012

TAKE ACTION: Join the Boycott!

They stomped on our right to know. Now it's time to get even.

Prop 37, the California Right to Know GMO labeling initiative, was narrowly defeated last week thanks to a relentless, deceitful $46-million advertising blitz. Among the largest bankrollers of the NO on 37 campaign were huge multinational food and beverage companies whose subsidiaries make billions selling some of your favorite organic and "natural" brands.

Brands like Kashi. Honest Tea. Naked Juice. Muir Glen and Morningstar Farms.

It's time to boycott the companies whose dirty money confused and scared millions of California voters into voting No on Prop 37. It's time to plaster their facebook pages with this message: We won't support you until you support us. It's time to call their consumer hotlines, complain to their store managers. It's time to tarnish their holy organic and natural images, to expose their hypocrisy and greed.

It's time to raise a little hell.

The OCA is calling on all consumers to boycott these 10 organic and natural traitor brands:

• PepsiCo (Donated $2.5M): Naked Juice, Tostito's Organic, Tropicana Organic
• Kraft (Donated $2M): Boca Burgers and Back to Nature
• Safeway (Member of Grocery Manufacturers Association, which donated $2M):"O" Organics
• Coca-Cola (Donated $1.7M): Honest Tea, Odwalla
• General Mills (Donated $1.2M): Muir Glen, Cascadian Farm, Larabar
• Con-Agra (Donated $1.2M): Orville Redenbacher's Organic, Hunt's Organic, Lightlife, Alexia
• Kellogg's (Donated $791k): Kashi, Bear Naked, Morningstar Farms, Gardenburger
• Smuckers (Donated $555k): R.W. Knudsen, Santa Cruz Organic
• Unilever (Donated $467k): Ben & Jerry's
• Dean Foods (Donated $254k): Horizon, Silk, White Wave

Great thread Roxy. I am very passionate about this issue. I am convinced that prop. 37's "failure" was completely a function of vote tabulation fraud (as are most election results). Had this actually passed, it would have changed food labeling for the better. Obviously, election fraud and big agra money manipulated the outcome--which equates to a great health truth loss to a large number of Americans.

I haven't read your whole thread, but is this a challenge where you live in Europe? I have read that most European nations are much further along down the path of health "truth" than us dumbed down Americans?

Avoid these 10 bad-mood foods
By Leah Zerbe, Rodale.com

These days, Americans are eating a lot of Unhappy Meals. Everyday foods void of important nutrients, minerals, and healthy fats are also laden with jaw-dropping levels of sugar and dangerous fats that research has linked to depression. The stress of modern-day life makes it easier to cave in to the temptations of what psychiatrist Drew Ramsey, MD, coauthor of The Happiness Diet, calls MAD -- the Modern American Diet.

Avoid the following 10 foods that can wreck your mood -- brought to you by the creators of The Happiness Diet -- and you'll be on the fast track to a happier body and mind!

Agave Nectar
The Joy-Killing Truth: Agave is promoted as a healthy, natural sweetener, but that's simply a myth. "Agave isn't a health food," says Dr. Ramsey. "People have been misled." Billed as healthy because it does not raise blood sugar, the excess fructose in agave increases the risk of metabolic syndrome, setting the stage for brain shrinkage and mood instability.

Healthy Switch: All types of sweeteners should be used in moderation, but turn to real maple syrup (make sure the label reads 100% maple syrup and lists no high-fructose corn syrup) and local honey for healthier sweetening options, advises Dr. Ramsey. These contain traces of important minerals and powerful plant antioxidants that promote health.

Are fake sugars safe?

Feds Shut Down Organic Peanut Processing Plant; First Case Under Food Safety Modernization Act
Janet Phelan
Tuesday, November 27, 2012
Activist Post

Concerns recently cited by WMD Center Director Randall Larsen concerning the vulnerability of peanut processing plants have turned out to be eerily prophetic. As of yesterday, the FDA shut down a large organic peanut processing plant in New Mexico, citing health concerns.

But it wasn't the terrorists which hit the Sunland peanut processing plant. According to the FDA, the plant had sloppy health practices which resulted in eleven batches over a twelve-year time span testing positive for salmonella. A recent outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney, which reportedly sickened 41 people across 20 states was linked to the peanut butter processed at the Sunland facility, states the FDA.

The FDA website reports: This was the FDA’s first use of its registration suspension authority, under the Food Safety Modernization Act. This new authority enables the agency to take this action when food manufactured, processed, packed, received, or held by a facility has a reasonable probability of causing serious adverse health consequences or death to humans or animals, and other conditions are met.

Scientists Discover New Technique to Remove Fluoride from Drinking Water
Andrew Puhanic, Contributor
Wednesday, November 28, 2012
Activist Post

Around the world, it is estimated that tens of millions of people are affected by both dental and skeletal fluorosis. In many cases, it is the addition of fluoride into drinking water supplies by governments that is the primary cause of both dental and skeletal fluorosis.

Common techniques used for defluoridation are coagulation-precipitation, membrane process and ion exchange.

The problem with these three techniques is that they are either too expensive or they further pollute the water.

Researchers from the National University of Sciences and Technology in Pakistan have discovered an effective method to remove fluoride from drinking water that is less expensive than conventional filtration processes and is safe to use.

Down Our Throats – How Corporate Influence and Public Policy Conspire to Keep Us Unhealthy

Alex Pietrowski, Contributor
Friday, November 30, 2012
Activist Post

No one can question the fact that the condition of public health in the United States has reached a critical point, and that much of this health catastrophe can be blamed on poor eating habits.

Nearly 1 million Americans each year experience a heart attack and another 600,000 die of heart disease, with poor diet and obesity being two of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease. About 1 out of every 3 American adults is obese, with another 17% of American children being obese. The cost associated with obesity-related healthcare, as well as the associated loss of productivity, is estimated to be up to $190 billion each year.

Despite these staggering statistics, public policy does nothing to encourage a healthy diet, in fact the opposite appears to ring truer; we live under a sort of culturally reinforced dietary tyranny of processed and unnatural foods. And while the government assaults and prosecutes those who cultivate and pursue raw milk and natural foods, they are also now telling us that they can create better health through legislation, taxation and by implementing legal restrictions on serving sizes.

Monsanto's Latest Poison: The Dangers of Dicamba
by grtv

On the heels of California’s Proposition 37 and the national debate over genetically engineered (GE) food, pesticide companies are continuing to push to legalize new types of GE crops linked with powerful pesticides. Farmers like Indiana’s Troy Roush are objecting to such a shortsighted approach to agriculture.

There are currently 13 new GE crops pending USDA approval, the most threatening of which may be Monsanto’s Dicamba Soybean. (Other crops include Dow’s 2,4-D Corn and 2,4-D Soybean, and the non-browning “Arctic Apple.”)

Why the need for new seeds? The first GE seeds were introduced in 1996 and adopted widely. Instead of having to rotate crops, farmers could spray the herbicide RoundUp to kill weeds while the GE plants survived. Gradually the weeds adapted and herbicide-resistant weeds now affect an estimated 12 million acres of farmland (about half the size of Indiana), and that number is growing rapidly.

They have the money behind them, but not the truth.

btw, the current policy chief of the FDA is Michael Taylor, a former Monsanto attorney, vice president, and lobbyist. Enough said.
