GMO AND THE DEVASTATION OF BEE COLONIES: Blamed for Bee Collapse, Monsanto Buys Leading Bee Research Firm
by Anthony Gucciardi
April 21, 2012
NationofChange

Monsanto, the massive biotechnology company being blamed for contributing to the dwindling bee population, has bought up one of the leading bee collapse research organizations. Recently banned from Poland with one of the primary reasons being that the company’s genetically modified corn may be devastating the dying bee population, it is evident that Monsanto is under serious fire for their role in the downfall of the vital insects.

It can be found in public company reports hosted on mainstream media that Monsanto scooped up the Beeologics firm back in September 2011. During this time the correlation between Monsanto’s GM crops and the bee decline was not explored in the mainstream, and in fact it was hardly touched upon until Polish officials addressed the serious concern amid the monumental ban. Owning a major organization that focuses heavily on the bee collapse and is recognized by the USDA for their mission statement of “restoring bee health and protecting the future of insect pollination” could be very advantageous for Monsanto.

In fact, Beelogics’ company information states that the primary goal of the firm is to study the very collapse disorder that is thought to be a result — at least in part — of Monsanto’s own creations. Their website states:

While its primary goal is to control the Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) and Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus (IAPV) infection crises, Beeologics’ mission is to become the guardian of bee health worldwide.

What’s more, Beelogics is recognized by the USDA, the USDA-ARS, the media, and ‘leading entomologists’ worldwide. The USDA, of course, has a great relationship with Monsanto. The government agency has gone to great lengths to ensure that Monsanto’s financial gains continue to soar, going as far as to give the company special speed approval for their newest genetically engineered seed varieties. It turns out that Monsanto was not getting quick enough approval for their crops, which have been linked to severe organ damage and other significant health concerns.

Steve Censky, chief executive officer of the American Soybean Association, states it quite plainly. It was a move to help Monsanto and other biotechnology giants squash competition and make profits. After all, who cares about public health?

WEAPONIZATION OF THE FOOD SYSTEM: Genetically Engineered Maize Threatens Nepal and the Himalayan Region
by Dr. Arun Shrivastava
April 24, 2012

Not only Nepal but the entire Himalayan region is under threat. Genetically Engineered seeds are weapons of mass culling. The Nepalese Government’s foolishness in inviting USAID and Monsanto for ‘agricultural development’ through genetically engineered maize will destroy the quality of its livestock and humans. The contamination of its fragile ecosystem will be in perpetuity and irreversible.

Monsanto has close strategic ties with the U.S. Department of Defense [DoD, which should actually be renamed as Department of War] and the USAID is actually a division of the US-DoD.

USAID’s current administrator Dr Rajiv Shah was top honcho of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and served the US administration as chief scientist in the Department of Agriculture [US-DoA]. US-DoA was a prime mover in the development of the "Terminator Seed" and patent holder. Terminator was later transferred to Monsanto.

USAID’s Economic Growth Advisor Rave Aulakh was lying when she said “We have been trying to help the Nepalese farmer to increase his total production of the food crops,” making him “a little bit more competitive by bringing his costs down,”[1]. They are all straight-faced liars.

Independent research by agricultural scientists after nearly two decades of experience with GE crops in the USA now clearly shows that these seeds neither increase yield, nor lower the cost of production, nor enhance nutrition. In fact there is incontrovertible evidence that GE crops disrupt soil nutrient balance and prevent uptake of certain critical nutrients by the roots. Moreover, GE crops contaminate non-crops from cross-pollination.

The sole purpose of genetic engineering of seeds is control over seed supply and global food availability. This weaponization of food system is being implemented by a few American and European multinational firms.

Morgellons: Plague of the 21st Century
April 26, 2012

If ever there was a modern day plague, the disease variously known as Morgellons, Myiasis, Myiasin and Karjoo Disease, would overwhelmingly qualify. We’re talking about something straight out of a Frankenstein flick full of overflowing test tubes and newfangled laboratory creations. The only catch here is that the human body has become the test tube; who’s really running the experiment, many of us would like to know?

We’ll address that question further in a future health blog. For now, let’s get down to the business of Morgellons, especially for those who have been led to believe that it is Delusional parasitosis (Per the CDC), Chronic fatigue syndrome, or various and sundry skin diseases. It does have striking similarities to all of these, except the “delusional” part, which is particularly descriptive of those medical practitioners who throw around such disrepectful fallacy.

Like no other disease process that The Health Coach has seen, Morgellons is the quintessential Multi-Infection Syndrome (MIS). Because of the broad range and severity of symptoms associated with every Morgellons sufferer we know of, we can say that it’s etiology falls squarely into the MIS pattern of hyper-toxicity. Therefore, if you suffer form this horrible malady, you can sleuth your own unique version of it and eradicate it from your being. All you have to do is take responsibility for your lifestyle, health and recovery.

Are we serious?

Yes, you bet we are!

Mad Cow Disease May Infect Through Milk Despite USDA Claims
Anthony Gucciardi
Friday, April 27, 2012
Activist Post

Following the latest confirmed case of mad cow disease in California, the USDA and the dairy industry alike are struggling to assure consumers that drinking affected milk poses no serious risk to your health.

Despite these warnings, some scientists have found research that points to the contrary. In fact, two large studies found that prions — pathogenic agents associated with mad cow disease and other life-threatening conditions — can actually transfer from animal to animal via milk consumption.

One such study, performed by a conglomerate of French, Norwegian, and British researchers, actually observed the presence of prions in sheep milk – the very prions that the USDA says cannot inhabit US dairy. Shockingly, this peer-reviewed study was published back in 2008 in the journal PLoS Pathogens. Why has the USDA not spoken of this study, or even the second study that reached similar conclusions?

Human Metabolism Negatively Impacted by High-Fructose Corn Syrup
Mike Barrett
April 27, 2012
NaturalSociety

fieldcorn3 Human Metabolism Negatively Impacted by High Fructose Corn SyrupHigh-fructose corn syrup is just one food ingredient, among many others, that virtually every health advocate will tell you to avoid. The Corn Refiners Association (CRA), a large organization that represents the corn refining industry, continues to assert that high-fructose corn syrup is completely safe and perfectly ‘natural’, but many health experts and research results couldn’t disagree more. One contribution high-fructose corn syrup is making to our society is a startling increase in obesity rates. Scientists have repeatedly proven that heavily altered (and often genetically modified) form of fructose, used in thousands of food products and soft drinks, can negatively impact human metabolism and is contributing to the growing obesity epidemic.

High-Fructose Corn Syrup Alters Human Metabolism
For quite some time, high-fructose corn syrup was thought to be perfectly healthy by some individuals, and the ingredient rampantly consumed in high amounts internationally. But research shows that high-fructose corn syrup changes human metabolism, and is actually metabolized much differently than other sugars. HFCS is a highly processed product that contains nearly the same amount of fructose and glucose. Sucrose, however, is a larger sugar molecule that is metabolized into glucose and fructose in your intestine. High-fructose corn syrup metabolizes to fat in your body much faster than other sugars, resulting in increased fat gain. Since the fructose is consumed in liquid form, the negative effects on human metabolism are even greater.

The Latest Food Crisis: “Food Insecurity”
Karen De Coster, Contributor
Monday, April 30, 2012
Activist Post

Here is a paragraph from a story in the Columbus Dispatch:

A little more than 17 percent of Franklin County residents met the government’s definition of “food insecure” in 2010, which means they didn’t always know whether they could put a decent meal on the table.

…The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the national food-insecurity rate remained relatively unchanged in 2010 at 16.1 percent — or nearly 49 million people.

The notion of food insecurity is a creation of government. ’Tis the same old story – obese Americans are “hungry,” and they need more food. The story is that children are hungry, rural people are hungry, the seniors are hungry (I thought they ate dog food?), and thus, more public assistance programs are needed. Here is a photo the organization uses to display “hungry Americans.” These people, like a majority of the poster children for “hunger,” are fat and undernourished on processed foods and fast foods that are scarcely fit for human consumption.

Government is always in the business of creating and exacerbating crisis, and so governments partner with phony charity fronts and corporate state powers to distort the facts with sham statistics and spread the fear mongering. These food insecurity stats are being used to show how people need additional food subsidies to “nudge” them out of that category. This article is based on a report released by an organization, Feeding America, which sounded might suspicious and very quasi-governmental. I wondered who the sponsors or partners of this organization would be, and it took me a whole sixty seconds to turn up all of the usual suspects: ConAgra Foods, Kellogg’s, Kraft Foods, Nestle’s, PepsiCo, and General Mills.

Letter Shows Monsanto Planted GMOs Before USDA Approval
Cassandra Anderson & Anthony Gucciardi
Wednesday, May 2, 2012
Activist Post

Did Monsanto actually plant genetically modified alfalfa before it was deregulated by the USDA? There is some shocking evidence that, until recently, was withheld from the public showing that Monsanto’s genetically altered alfalfa may have been set free in 2003 — a full two years or more before it was deregulated in 2005. In a letter, obtained by NaturalSociety with permission to post for public viewing, it becomes clear that the USDA may have turned a blind eye to the entire situation, allowing widespread GMO contamination of GMO-free crops.

Amazingly, the letter actually proves that the USDA was fully aware of the situation. In order to fully understand the intricate details of this event, it is first important to understand a few key factors regarding alfalfa and its connection to the entire food supply.

Alfalfa is a perennial plant that grows for more than 2 years and may not need to be replanted each year like annuals. Because it is a perennial plant, it is exceptionally vulnerable to contamination. Interestingly, the modified alfalfa — created by Monsanto in partner with a group known as Forage Genetics — was the first perennial plant to be deregulated for open planting by the USDA. But did Monsanto unleash the plant before this occurred?

Monsanto’s Roundup Continuously Shown to Cause Birth Defects
Patrick Gallagher

Activist Post

Monsanto has recently been noted as one of the key power players in the welfare of people across the country, continually extending their influence to the more remote parts of the world as well. Monsanto has also been engineering extensively genetically modified crops for the past several decades, and now finally has a type of soybean crop that can survive sustained pesticide exposure – for maximum insect control of course.

What seems to be a positive situation is actually a mostly dangerous toxic product; made specifically to deflect the harmful effects of the pesticides and weed killers on the growing plants. The Roundup Ready crops are recognized as the root cause of disease and discontent spread upon the Argentinean mass growing plains known as the Pampas. There was a time when the Pampas were littered with small farms, but ever since Monsanto hit the scene, the Pampas have been a major GMO growing operation.

Artificial Sweeteners Linked with Preterm Delivery
Mike Barrett
Saturday, May 19, 2012
Activist Post

Sugar sweetened beverages such as sodas have received a wide-scale bad reputation for their negative impact on health. All the while, diet sodas are falsely promoted as a healthier alternative. But artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, used in diet soda, have also been tied to numerous health complications, with one study linking artificial sweeteners to premature delivery.

Although some attest to the safety of artificial sweeteners like aspartame, these sweeteners have actually been shown to cause considerable harm.

The study looking at the relationship between soft drink consumption and pregnancy outcome found that preterm delivery risk rises 38 percent for pregnant women having 1 or more servings of artificially sweetened drinks per day. What’s more, consuming 4 or more servings daily was associated with an increased risk of 78 percent.

Whole Foods Adds Creepy Warning Stickers To Their Raw Juices
Sayer Ji, Contributor
Monday, May 21, 2012
Activist Post

After a recent trip to the juice bar at the Naples Whole Foods – a place, mind you, I usually avoid at all costs because they don’t explicitly label the ingredients in their prepared foods as being certified organic – I allowed my good judgment to be euthanized by the sweet-sounding clerk’s assurance that they use "mostly organic" ingredients, with the highly non-binding qualification: "whenever possible."

Of course, my main concern with not buying 100% organic juice is the greater likelihood that the produce was grown in factory-farmed animal manure, or raw-human sewage, which is a breeding ground for serious, even deadly pathogens, and which may contaminate both the food grown in it, and the people who consume the contaminated food.

But, a battery of factors conspired against what I would like to consider my better judgment: 1) being fatigued by the morning outing at the Zoo. 2) knowing our favorite organic juice bar (at Food & Thought) was taking a much-deserved day of rest. 3) being in the company of less "neurotic" and equally exhausted child-towing company ... I just decided to shut up and give it a shot.

Monsanto Buys Whole Foods: Fact or Rumor?
Mike Barrett
Monday, May 21, 2012
Activist Post

Since early 2011, there has been a lot of information circulating regarding Monsanto’s purported purchasing of the natural health food store known as Whole Foods; topics like "Monsanto buys whole foods" and others quickly became hot search terms.

Interestingly enough, Monsanto was also rumored to have bought Blackwater (Xe), a private military company. While it is understandable that Monsanto would buy or at least work with Blackwater (as they are both in the same corrupt business), who would believe that Monsanto could scoop up Whole Foods?

In actuality, the biotechnology giant did not buy Blackwater, and did not buy Whole Foods. Here are the details.

It all started in early 2011, when the USDA finally made the decision to deregulate genetically modified alfalfa without restrictions – a decision which caused many individuals, companies, and farmers to become very upset. Before the decision was made, the USDA was considering two options which they would present to the industry: to fully deregulate the alfalfa or to deregulate it with restrictions. Unfortunately, there was no option presented to the industry by the USDA for an outright ban on GM alfalfa, so Whole Foods went with the better option available.

Blatant Corruption Exposed as EU Blocks France’s Ban on Monsanto’s GMO Maize

Anthony Gucciardi
Thursday, May 24, 2012
Activist Post

Just after France legislators and officials moved to ban Monsanto’s genetically modified strain of GMO maize over environmental and health concerns, the European Union has decided to step in and re-secure Monsanto’s presence in the country — against the very will of the nation itself.

This should come as no surprise when considering the fact that the United States ambassador to France, a business partner to George W. Bush, stated back in 2007 that nations who did not accept Monsanto’s GMO crops will be ‘penalized’. In fact, ambassador Craig Stapleton went as far as to say that the nations should be threatened with military-style trade wars.

That’s right, it appears the reason for the unprecedented move to maintain Monsanto’s deeply-rooted foothold in France has to do with the fact that the United States and other nations are continually pushing Monsanto’s agenda — even going as far as to threaten military-style trade wars to those who oppose the company.

As I reported back in January, WikiLeaks cables surfaced revealing some startling information concerning Monsanto’s deep involvement with back-end politics.

USDA Redefines 'Organic' to Maximize Profits for Agribusiness
Susanne Posel, Contributor

The Cornucopia Institute (CI), a watchdog group that focuses on the American agricultural industry, has accused the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) over a federal governmental panel that decides what is considered “organic” and the federal insiders that are using the USDA to further their alternative agenda.

CI has released a document called The Organic Watergate , wherein they claim the USDA’s Natural Organic Standards Board (NOSB) is staffing their agency with employees that have corporate ties to nefarious multi-nationals.

Congress enabled the NOSB with statutory power when they passed the Organic Foods Production Act of 1990.

At the Savannah meeting a giant Dutch-based multi-national corporation, Royal DSM N.V./Martek Biosciences, aligned with the nation’s largest dairy processor, Dean Foods, to force approval of DHA/ARA synthetic nutrient oils. The additives, created from genetically mutated algae and soil fungus, are processed with petrochemical solvents, grown in genetically engineered corn, and formulated for use in infant formula, dairy and other products with a myriad of other unregulated synthetic ingredients.

Over the course of the past few months, I have spent a good deal of time reflecting on my mostly healthy diet, my relatively good health, and the possible if not probable relationship between the two. It has been quite the journey of discovery.

Starting with the documentaries Forks Over Knives (what we put on our forks may eliminate the need for the surgical knife), Food, Inc. And believe me, there is a lot of misinformation and innuendo out there.

Today, without getting preachy, I would like to challenge you to open up your mind to altering the way you eat not only for your own long-term health, but also for long term sustainability of the agricultural resources on our planet and the humane and responsible treatment of farm animals.

Monsanto to purchase Precision Planting, Inc.
May 25, 2012

In line with its vision of delivering yield to farmers sustainably, Monsanto Company has announced it reached an agreement to purchase planting technology developer Precision Planting, Inc., a proven leader in improving yields through on-farm planting performance.

The Precision Planting team will become part of Monsanto’s Integrated Farming Systems unit, which utilizes advanced agronomic practices, seed genetics and innovative on-farm technology to deliver optimal yield to farmers while using fewer resources.

Precision Planting has a long history of innovations that optimize planter performance and increase yield potential, including the new FieldView technology, which offers an application designed to monitor all critical aspects of planter performance and crop data analysis. That will complement Monsanto’s planned Integrated Farming Systems offering of science-based agronomic seed prescriptions combined with next-generation precision equipment to help farmers boost yields and reduce risk.

“This underscores our commitment to maximizing yield for farmers while optimizing crop inputs, which is central to our vision of sustainable agriculture,” said Robb Fraley, Monsanto’s chief technology officer.

Factory Farms Produce 100 Times More Waste than U.S. Population
Mike Barrett, Contributor
Tuesday, May 29, 2012
Activist Post

If you thought you were a major contributor to pollution, just wait until you hear this. Factory farms produce 100 times more waste than every single person in the United States combined. The amount of waste produced by these factories is in such mass quantities that it is virtually impossible to clean up properly.

Much of this waste is dumped into the water supply, drastically increasing overall water pollution as well as contributing to the pollution found in drinking water.

Back in 2008 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) made a decision that affected many factory farms. They stated that any confined animal feeding operation (CAFO), also known as factory farms, “designed, constructed, operated, and maintained in a manner such that the CAFO will discharge” animal waste must apply for a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit under the Clean Water Act. The livestock industry ridiculed this notion.

There have been past rulings concerning this issue that forced farmers to have a permit to discharge waste and to have a set plan as to how the waste would be discharged, or they would face civil or criminal penalties. The 2008 ruling went further with the issue, putting even more criteria in place to follow.

Low IQ? ... It's The Fluoride Stupid
Sayer Ji, Contributor

Activist Post

If those who believe that fluoride doesn’t "make you stupid" (i.e. lower IQ) let themselves be exposed to it, or willfully consume it for its purported "health benefits," doesn’t that prove the point? Could their fluoride-exposed brains and bodies lack the discernment (or IQ) needed to ascertain the obvious dangers of such exposure?

After all, how can one intelligently ignore the evidence supporting a hard and fast connection between increased fluoride exposure and lower IQ? For example....

The study, titled "Fluoride and children's intelligence: a meta-analysis," published in the journal Biological Trace Element Research in 2008, set out to determine "…whether fluoride exposure increases the risk of low intelligence quotient (IQ) in China over the past 20 years." They reported: "Sixteen case-control studies that assessed the development of low IQ in children who had been exposed to fluoride earlier in their life were included in this review. A qualitative review of the studies found a consistent and strong association between the exposure to fluoride and low IQ. The meta-analyses of the case-control studies estimated that the odds ratio of IQ in endemic fluoride areas compared with nonfluoride areas or slight fluoride areas. The summarized weighted mean difference is -4.97 (95%confidence interval [CI] = -5.58 to -4.36; p<0.01) using a fixed-effect model and -5.03 (95%CI = -6.51 to 3.55; p<0.01) using a random-effect model, which means that children who live in a fluorosis area have five times higher odds of developing low IQ than those who live in a nonfluorosis area or a slight fluorosis area."[1]

5 Million Farmers Sue Monsanto for $7.7 Billion

Launching a lawsuit against the very company that is responsible for a farmer suicide every 30 minutes, 5 million farmers are now suing Monsanto for as much as 6.2 billion euros (around 7.7 billion US dollars). The reason? As with many other cases, such as the ones that led certain farming regions to be known as the ‘suicide belt’, Monsanto has been reportedly taxing the farmers to financial shambles with ridiculous royalty charges. The farmers state that Monsanto has been unfairly gathering exorbitant profits each year on a global scale from “renewal” seed harvests, which are crops planted using seed from the previous year’s harvest.

The practice of using renewal seeds dates back to ancient times, but Monsanto seeks to collect massive royalties and put an end to the practice. Why? Because Monsanto owns the very patent to the genetically modified seed, and is charging the farmers not only for the original crops, but the later harvests as well. Eventually, the royalties compound and many farmers begin to struggle with even keeping their farm afloat. It is for this reason that India slammed Monsanto with groundbreaking ‘biopiracy’ charges in an effort to stop Monsanto from ‘patenting life’.

Taking the temperature of the Department of Consumer Affairs - Diagnosis: Deadly

Reichel Everhart, the Deputy Director of the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), has declined to respond to questions as to the functioning of the Professional Fiduciaries Bureau, which is housed in the DCA. Nor will she respond to written requests to direct the Bureau to respond to public records act requests in a manner which would be considered legal.

The two records requests in question, one made to the PFB in January of 2012 and the other made in April of 2012, produced email responses which were highly problematic.

The proper format to respond to a public records act request is by letter, as emails may not be considered legal tender. In fact, if there were a legal challenge to the content of the responses, the emails might not be admissable in a court of law.

Occupy Wall Street Maui, GMO-Free Maui and the March On Maui group joined together Thursday to gather in front of Monsanto’s facility and GMO corn fields in protest of Monsanto Corporation using their islands as their own personal experimental laboratory.

According to the group's Facebook call to action; "Monsanto is one of the most insidious examples of the 1%, the ruling global elite. They have polluted our soil and groundwater with Roundup and other pesticides, polluted our air with open field testing of their GMO corn crops, and polluted our government and education system with massive campaign contributions and funding of our schools and universities."

The group brought signs, drums, music and good vibes as they gathered together in solidarity with people all over the world who have been negatively affected by Monsanto and their products. They came together to send a resounding message to Monsanto that Monsanto is not welcome on their island.

Drug Contaminants, Chemicals in Tap Water Among Possible Causes of Autism
Mike Barrett

Autism has been and will continue to be a controversial issue, with the possible causes of autism being at the center of the discussion.

While there are a number of possible causes of autism, some research has shown that anti-depressants and other chemicals found in the water supply could be helping to surge autism rates, specifically ‘idiopathic’ autism spectrum disorders.

After exposing fish to two different anti-depressant drugs, Prozac and venlafaxine, and a seizure-controlling drug called carbamazepine, experts from the University of Idaho were ‘astonished’ after observing changes in the genetic pathways of the fish. They found that just traces of common medications and other chemicals in the water were enough to bring about autism. What’s more, the drug concentrations were comparable with the highest estimated environmental levels.

“While others have envisioned a causal role for psychotropic drugs in idiopathic autism, we were astonished to find evidence that this might occur at very low dosages, such as those found in aquatic systems,” said lead scientist Dr Michael Thomas.

This research lends even more concern for pregnant mothers who drink water with trace concentrations, who run the risk of passing along these drugs and other chemicals in the water to their unborn children.

Labeling GMOs Proposal in California Set to Change American Food Supply

Soon, GM food may be labeled for consumers by mandate of the State of California legislators.

Over half a million signatures have been collected by advocates supporting the requirement of labeling of genetically modified foods. Several county registrars in California have received the measure called The Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act . California would be the first state to demand detailed labeling of these foods in such a wide range of processed foods containing GMO.

The proposal is not the first labeling law to be drafted in California.
