Math: 6÷2(1+2) = ?

Lol, that is funny, which one? It def used to say 1.

Fix the equation above.

When I clicked the link it is saying 6/2(1X2)

Fix teh equation above it. It gives 9.

Website you posted definately shows 9 as answer.

Can anyone give me a website that will show how to work the problem that comes up with 1?

I have found calcs and sites and profs that say both. I originally said 1 and am just sticking to it out of spite, lol. And the fact that it is more of a poorly written expression than anything, there are good arguments for both, imo.

Link me one please. I cant find a single math website that gives anything besides 9.

The divide symbol is represented by the slash (/).

So replace the op divide symbol with a slash and do the problem.

You get:

6/2(1+2)

The 6 is the numerator (on top), and the denominator is 2(1+2) (on bottom)

6/6=1

6 / 2 * (1+2)=1

6 / 2 * 3

6 / 6

1 / 1 = 1

I have not searched any online calcs again yet, but here is why I say 1.

6÷2(1+2)
6÷2(3)
6÷6 = 1
Or
6÷2(1+2)
distribute 2(1+2) = 2+4 = 6
6÷6 = 1

Now I understand some will argue you should not distribute first. But according to those using their pedmas that is p, right? Oh, order of ops, lol.

I am not depending on that. I have done the math problem. Checked it with each variable possible. The answer is 9. I want someone with an answer of 1 to show me a website to go along with his answer.

If I would of tried 1 website, I would say your argument has merit. But I have tried over 10+ math websites, excel, and 2 calculators.

I never said I would. I do not trust the person who invented this flawed expression. The answer is both, you have to have the person who wrote you the problem be more specific to get the correct answer.

I'm calling bs, just did it on 2 reg sci calcs and got 1. If you use graphing you will get 9 because of the programming. But then you could say the same about the scientific, so, which is correct?
