Black Hole Blast Biggest Ever Recorded
Explosion is at least five times more powerful than previously observed events.

Astronomers have witnessed a record-breaking blast of gas and dust flowing out of a monster black hole more than 11.5 billion light-years away.

The supermassive gravity well, with a mass of one to three billion suns, lurks at the core of a quasar—a class of extremely bright and energetic galaxies—dubbed SDSS J1106 1939. (See "Black Hole Blasts Superheated Early Universe.")

"We discovered the most energetic quasar outflow ever seen, at least five times more powerful than any that have been observed to date," said Nahum Arav, an astronomer at Virginia Tech and co-author of the study to be published in The Astrophysical Journal.

Wow Holy Cow what a day and night we are in for!
Just got back from town the wind is unbelievable couldn't get the car door open it's growling out there picked up carts at Walgreen's one slammed into my car, debris, dirt and ice flying winds clocked up to 85 mph. Fires and video link below. It's crazy out there then it's supposed to drop to -30-45 below 0 tonight. I've tried to be prepared friends already lost power and no snow for insulation damn.
Glenn Highway Reopens, Mat-Su Subdivisions Evacuated After Fires
Mat-Su Borough officials have called for the Cedar Hills subdivision and other areas to be evacuated after several homes caught fire in high winds Thursday, temporarily closing the Glenn Highway in the area. One firefighter has been reported injured fighting the fires.

Palmer Mayor DeLena Johnson says the Glenn Highway has been reopened after a crash on the highway this afternoon that started the Cedar Hills fire. According to Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Megan Peters, the wreck involved a truck hauling a trailer.

The City of Palmer's Facebook page says the trailer involved apparently flipped at the intersection of the Glenn and Palmer Fishhook Road at 1:53 p.m. Thursday, generating sparks that ignited the fire.

Mat-Su Borough spokesperson Patty Sullivan says about 150 to 200 acres in Cedar Hills have burned, with three to four homes in the subdivision and another eight north of Wickersham Road all threatened. An evacuation center has been set up at the Palmer Senior Center for those displaced from the subdivision, which contains 15 homes.

Kiska volcano again...
"Kiska Volcano is a stratovolcano, 8.5 by 6.4 km in diameter at its base and 1221 m high, on the northern end of Kiska Island. A slightly elliptical crater, about 0.4 km in diameter and breached on the north, occupies the summit. A parasitic 30-m-high cinder cone, formed in 1962 near sea level, occurs at Sirius Point and an older parasitic cone, now leveled by marine erosion, occurs at sea level 5.6 km southwest of Kiska Volcano

A widespread power outage has been reported just outside Boston where MIT and Harvard University are located. NStar utility spokesman Mike Durand says about 17,000 customers are affected by Thursday’s power outage in an eastern part of Cambridge, just across the Charles River from Boston. He says the outage is related to a transmission line and is being investigated. NStar’s outage website says about 27 percent of its Cambridge customers are affected.

He stressed that all medical emergency units in Iran should be ready to "confront nuclear incidents." A major rail accident was averted in the Ernakulam-Kayamkulam passenger near Alappuzha railway station.
Eight persons, including women in the bogey were safe. No one was hurt in the incident. The second bogey from the train engine which houses the luggage room on both its end was involved in the accident. The rusting of the parts is the reason behind the incident, as per primary investigations.

Meteor Streams
Meteor streams are groups of meteoroids originating typically from dust grains ejected from comets. These small dust grains are distributed along the parent comet's orbit concentrated close to the comet nucleus with fewer grains farther away from the nucleus. Every time the Earth passes through such a stream of dust particles (i.e. meteor stream), we experience what is known as a meteor shower.

Of particular interest to solar system dynamics is the association of a parent (source) body with a specific meteor stream. CHANCE OF STORMS: NOAA forecasters estimate a 55% chance of polar geomagnetic storms today, Nov. 30th, when a coronal mass ejection (CME) is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.

SOLAR ACTIVITY: The most active region on the solar disk today is emerging sunspot AR1625. It is crackling with C-class solar flares, like this one (C4.6) recorded on Nov. 29th by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory:

The eruption did not hurl a CME into space. Neither Earth nor any other planet will be affected.

More flares could be in the offing as AR1625 emerges in close proximity to another active sunspot, AR1623. If the magnetic canopies of the two sunspots intermingle, they could reconnect and erupt, producing something stronger than a C-flare.
