Cantor: Taxing The Rich Is Off The Table, But Making Students Pay More Immediately Is Fine

Cantor, at the White House for budget negotiations, apparently proposed that students who take out student loans should immediately start paying interest, rather than getting to make payments after graduation:

As Monday’s White House budget talks got down to the nitty-gritty, Eric Cantor proposed a series of spending cuts, one of them aimed squarely at college students. The House majority leader, who did most of the talking for the Republican side, said those taking out student loans should start paying interest right away, rather than being able to defer payments until after graduation. It is a big-ticket item that would save $40 billion over 10 years.

Yes... let's destroy high education even more... I mean, it's not like the US needs people with high education to compete on the international job market uh?

Higher cost of high end education = higher drop out rate and higher debt rate... And you CAN'T default on student loans.

Cantor, you are SCUM.

If higher education was not subsidize to the extent that it is, costs would naturally come down.

I think we should be paid fairly for work, and take home our ENTIRE pay. Then from our income we should write checks for each and every tax and for our health care costs including insurance.

Once people paid their own health care, instead of through a 2nd or 3rd party, discriminating buying practices will bring cost down dramatically by forcing competition between providers.

If people paid their taxes directlt instead of through their employer, we would understand that we probably do earn fair wage, but the govt STEALS a great deal of it. There woukd be a backlash bigger then the Boston Tea Party.

Off topic but interesting

businesses with one to five employees averaged $7,274 per employee to adhere to federal tax regulations, while businesses with more than 50 employees averaged only $296.50 per worker [link to smallbiztrends.com]

^^^yeah right. As soon as the students stop going to class they have to start paying back their loans. No one can afford to take a year off even if the doom forecast is more intense than usual.

To name a few. College information brochures often include a list of grants available for a specific course of study.

We really need to learn how to depend less on government and more on ourselves and the private sector.

Since the govt took over studnet loan administration, only one financial entity is permitted to issue student loans. That institution charges higher interest rates than the rates for mortgages!!!!

Eliminate competition and costs go up.

Good idea.
There are way too many people with useless college degrees.
In the US we have tons of bartenders and waitresses with college degrees.
How many people do we need with psychology degrees?

This is the Republican party for you. All the people who are blaming Obama for everything, wake up. Anyone who believes in either political party anymore is making a mistake. Most of our politicians couldn't care less about the people.
All the super conservatives back the Republicans because they are anti-abortion and want to cut entitlement spending to the poor.
Yeah, great, until you are broke and your government won't help you. Then you find out the Republicans are only trying to help their own rich friends.
Democrats have always given away too much to people who don't want to work. Republicans want to keep all the money for the rich and screw the little guy. Both parties suck.
