Actually the reason this is newsworthy is that the Senate is NOT recessed.

That means Obama had to send his appointees through the senate for confirmation, he didn't and in doing so is acting like a dictator.

According to the Congressional Research Service, President Bill Clinton made 139 recess appointments. President George W. Bush made 171 recess appointments, and as of December 8, 2011, President Barack Obama had made 28 recess appointments.

The guy will head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

FFS the Bureau is charged with protecting consumers from crooked businessmen and banksters. For all of the shit that people talk about bankers on here you would think that this form of regulation would be welcomed.

Obama made these appointment when the Senate was NOT in recess so the Senate should have had to confirm these appointments.

There is just one problem with the Mother Jones article, it is pure unadulterated bullshit.

When Bush used a recess appointment to make John Bolton our UN ambassador, he was not rejected by the Senate nor had he been rejected, and the senate was actually recessed at the time (Blame Harry Reid). Bush did so because he knew that the democrats would not allow Bolton to be our ambassador and like all recess appointment the senate had the right to confirm or REMOVE Bolton once they were back in session.

it has nothing to do with race or political party for me...it has everything to do with the fact that he signed a bill that allows for the indefinite detention of anyone anywhere...i might get some "oh but it doesnt pertain to american citizens" to that id like to point out that it says the military is not required to indefinitely detain citizens...this means they can they just dont have to like they are required to with non citizens. i was also outraged when bush signed patriot act...and when obama signed the 2nd one with the autopen.

Recess appointments have been around a long time, but this is the first time it has been done while congress and the senate were in session. I don't see this working out. Congress and/or the supreme court should step in and stop this immediately.

I have a lot of friends in the US that I have known for years and I can tell you the average Joe could care less about this and many of the other things being done by Obama because they are so sick and tired of your Congress being dysfunctional.

It is like a huge class three ring circus of buffoons who are in the end only concerned about staying on the gravy train. The fight about everything and never accomplish anything beyond creating a bunch of bullshit theatrics and drama.

It is like people are just saying "fuck it" and slapping on the blinders, ignore the government completely and get on with day to day life because it is tough go right now for many.
