3 earthquakes seem to have changed the ballgame around once more. First came two deep earthquakes at a new spot at 10.10 in the morning, both of them at the depth of 20 km. 26 minutes later followed a 2.6M at 10 kilometers depth.

Within minutes a sharp increase was noticed in the high frequency tremor. The tremor lacks low frequency components making this a dead giveaway that we are seeing a de-gassing event. What has happened is that a persistent earthquake swarm north of Balneario Pozo La Salud most likely finally cracked through and things started to move up beyond the de-gassing threshold.... Something to ruminate upon. Almost all of the GPS-stations on El Hierro have suffered a slight motion soutwards during the last couple of days. Not much, but still there. A couple of them has shown no motion, so most likely it is not a ghost motion.

Seismic activity associated with the volcanic process existing in El Hierro yesterday experienced a significant upturn, with about 60 movements between 1.6 and 2.8 degrees located up after 22.00 hours, according to the data which at that time had disclosed on its website the National Geographic Institute (IGN). However, there were hundreds of other non-localized.

This activity is distributed on two levels, with a series of earthquakes originated under the sea in the Gulf against Sabinosa at depths ranging from 8 y11 kilometers and another swarm, on land, under the area of border and Los Llanillos, between 18 and 21 kilometers deep, with numerous epicentres in the Summit.

The vibrations were felt in different areas of the island, as this newspaper has seen although the IGN has only recorded that one sense, out of 2.6 degrees, to the 10.26 hours and 10 kilometers of depth to Sabinosa…

Volcanic activity on Mount Yasur on Tanna Island in Vanuatu, which has been erupting for hundreds of years, has intensified. The Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory has raised its warning regarding Yasur to level two, with expectations of ash and rock falls around the mountain. The volcano reached a level three rating last year, but Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory manager Esline Garaebiti says a threat of that extent is unlikely. However she says people still need to stay clear of the mountain. “This volcano is quite special and the activity is so strong that we maintain it in level two for quite some time and if the explosions are becoming very strong and the projections go further out from the parking area then we will raise the level to level three.”

basically, what you will see in that link is CONFIRMATION of the collapse threat at El Julan, and in fact, the slope the cliffs are on is STEEPER than the slope below Cumbre Vjeja! 5 degrees steeper.

On Saturday, the 1,745-meter (5,725-foot) tall volcano again spewed "abundant gas emissions moving toward the northeast" and increased seismic tremor and sulfur concentrations, according to the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies, or INETER. Sulfur dioxide monitoring showed levels of the compound -- considered a measure of volcanic activity -- were nearly double the readings from previous days, said the director of national disaster prevention and relief agency SINAPRED, Guillermo Gonzalez.

Is this movement of fresh magma now and could it mean that the island structure below is like swiss cheese and the magma is filling up all the holes bit by bit and what will happen when there are no more holes to fill is this not worrying?

Kevin Cabrera Felipe has just posted that he has felt sound and a small vibration at 12:05 in San Cristobal La Laguna which is in the North of Tenerife .

He states there is no work nearby or any passing cars and he lives on the first floor.

A brief update on El Hierro

Posted on September 16, 2012by Carl le Strange As the smoke starts to clear at El Hierro we get a much more detailed picture of what is happening. As data has poured in we can now deduce a few things.

First of all GPS figures today confirmed that this is indeed a fourth bolus of magma coming up from the depth. The first one in July 2011 started the entire hubbub and in the end caused the sub-aquatic eruption south of La Restinga. A second bolus in January that followed the same path revigorated the ongoing eruption briefly, but was too small to keep up the pressure in the volcanic system and the eruption dwindled to a halt. The third bolus is so far the most interesting, during a few days more magma arrived than during the first one that caused the eruption. The magma arrived at the same place as for the first two (around the Tanganasoga volcano), but then it took an entirely new path and created quite a few earthquakes as it moved towards the western point of the Island. The fourth bolus also arrived at Tanganasoga, and immediately started to move south and slightly downwards....
