NC Jail Tale: Murder suspect hid gun in butt

JACKSONVILLE - A fugitive wanted on a murder charge in Atlanta and arrested here earlier this week is accused of hiding a handgun in his rectum while in the Onslow County Jail.

The .38-caliber, 6-inch barrel reolver may have injured the suspect's rectum and he was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital to be treated. While the gun was not loaded, it was test fired and it was in operational use, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Michael Leon Ward, 22, of Sugar Lake Drive in Canton, Ga., was charged late Thursday night by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office with fugitive warrants from the State of Georgia for murder and armed robbery.
