USA : Civil War : 2013 .... thoughts?

United we Stand, Divided we Fall, right?

So I guess it's pretty much impossible today?


What if a group of states declared their secession from the United States and joined together? I can see something like this possibly happening with the states becoming more and more unique from one another with laws and the people living within them.

The division is now ideological. Not based on a singular issue or policy. It's between 3 and 5 opposing view points and 3 of those are mutually exclusive to each other.

1. The Socialist/Fascist (National Socialist, Communist, Progressive Democrats, Neo-Cons) Supreme authority of the State in the lives of its citizens, little to no deviation from the centrally planned guidelines. Maximum control over society, with limited allowance for individual choice in social or economic matters.

2. The Loyalists (Left). Support the semi-omnipotent power of a central authority to secure the basic needs of citizens at any and all cost.

3. The Moderates (Centrist). Support limited power of the State, with the sway of power held bending towards authority.

4. The Loyalists (Right) Support the semi-omnipotent power of a central authority to secure the property and wealth of its citizens, whatever the cost.

5. The Libertarians (AnCap, Sovereign and others) Support individual Liberty and Freedom, with little or no authority given to the State. Little to no 'safety net' or regulation of personal decisions. The State is relegated to matters of international policy with a bent towards non-interventionism and isolationism.


Now most people will fall somewhere between these stereotypes. That's a given. The problem is, right now you've got more and more people that are swinging to the extremes. Myself included.

When it comes to a Central Government this is the breakdown:
#1 and #5 are mutually exclusive. #3 can cohabitate with #2 and #4 but will not survive in #1 and #5's environments. Nor will #2 survive #4 or vice versa. And God help anyone from #2, #3 or #4 get caught under #1 or #5 against their will.

I'm well aware of the false left/right paradigm but I used that as an example in the degrees above. It's easier to read than a web would have been.

Since we are less and less willing to compromise our ideals, especially when the perceived destruction of our respective ways of life is omnipresent, the chance for an escalation of violence to take place is conceivable, if not down right inevitable.

Take me for example. I used to fall somewhere between #1 and #2. Now I'm staunchly in the #5 category. I don't see a way to exist living under the rule of #1, #2, #3 or #4. Why don't I? 'Cause no matter what you've got some politician stealing your labor while pointing a rifle at your face. See there, that's called tyranny where I'm from. So how in the Hell am I supposed to make a living? If every where I turn I'm losing my labor to people who continuously seek to take more and more of it, and losing the freedom of choice in all things that don't conform to what the State thinks is best for me, what makes it acceptable to exist under a system that has proven itself to be antagonistic towards my very existence?

That's just my view point. The opposite holds true for many as well, and that's fine. We'll see whose side has more...heart, if you will. And then, you've got the huge middle section that thinks that all of us on the Fringe are fucking nutz and should be locked away.

America was a wonderful experiment. It was a truly great nation, but the ravages of corruption and apathy have weakened her to the point of collapse. The divisions among it's citizens will not be assuaged by the ballot box, for no matter who wins, the rest get screwed out of something. Couple that (the political) with the escalation in racial tension and you have yourselves a 21st century Yugoslavia. Without the national memory of widespread violence, many will fail to see the warning signs until it's too late.

At this point, Balkanization is inevitable. There's too much damage done to the connective tissue, and not enough will to heal whats broken.

I would like nothing more than to believe that an answer to our predicament will appear. However, I'm not naive enough to believe that pretty words and appeasement will do anything more than postpone the coming conflagration.

War is coming, like it or not. Just remember: Even in War there is Honor. Let's try not to remake the Hutus V. Tutsis here, ok?

I'm wondering what a modern day civil war in the US would look like?

How would it happen? What would happen? How would it effect the average citizen? Would we all be taking up guns and aiming them at family and friends with differing opinions?

Would the righty's kill the lefty's?

Instead of using guns would hackers attack the govn't websites, leak info and possibly hack other tactical targets such has power plants, water systems, rail.. etc.

Would some giant corporation step in and form it's own govn't?

Would there be martial law, and if so.. do you think some our own military soldiers would defect and defend whatever side they choose?

Would there be an Eeastern US and Western US or possibly even more... the Southern states, the NorthEastern States..etc.




I know it's pretty bleak but just something I've been thinking about for a while and I'm wondering what others are thinking?

There will be an EMP event, solar event, meteor event, or global war before a US Civil War. Who has the firepower to go up against the federal government with all their DARPA technology at their disposal as well as the National Guard Units etc etc. ? Moreover, by and large, we are a sick, addicted, and out of shape population. That doesn't translate well into effective fighters. Forget about a civil war. Ain't going to happen.

Civil war is no longer possible in the U.S. because, in a desire for "security", the citizens allowed the government to take all the power.

In the days of the American Revolution, ragtag rebels were able to fight and defeat the greatest empire on Earth, ONLY because they were both on the same weaponry plateau.

Now, the establishment government has control over the infrastructure, over communications, they have stealth bombers, rocket propelled grenades, bunker busters and nuclear weapons.

There is no way a citizen-based separatist group opposing the U.S. government, could compete, because they couldn't gather the resources to produce a comparable number of troops, guns, tanks, satellites, stealth bombers or nuclear weapons.

All these other peoples are talking about how it would be chaos. I think humanity would come together and crush the tyrants. Good wins over evil EVERYTIME! No matter what!!

Yes there is a way to have a civil war.....

Its for people everywhere in the USA to stay home, don't pay taxes....just have a massive sit out...Nothing runs, no trains, planes, buses, and taxis....

The country would totally shut down.....

Wouldn't last long. a civil war is a war between two movements. The only 2 movements with enough people in them are the Left Paradigm and the Right Paradigm.

Yankees are too concerned with keeping their farms in operation and surviving harsh winters to care about whatever Southerners do. At least in Vermont, that's the case.

I am amazed that most Americans do not understand what a CIVIL WAR is versus REVOLUTION.

Civil War? How about complete societal collapse?

Imagine a country without welfare, no value in currency, incapable of growing or manufacturing anything.

No television, no running water, no electricity.

No gas in your car, no communication from facebook, twitter, the mail services; nothing.

Imagine your life without a fire department, a police department, a transportation department, etc.

This isn't a Civil War we will be fighting, it will be a Survival War.

How's your aim? Got any food stores? Have anything to barter? Do you have seeds and know how to garden? Do you have books to educate your fellow man with? Would you be willing to share?

The funny thing is our resources aren't running out. They're just jacking up the prices and laughing all the way to the bank when they post their tens of billions in profits. People should be infuriated, but they're not. Change is tough and we all want it to be like it was, when we could afford houses, cars, and education. Now we can barely afford food.

Media corporations have successfully sidetracked us with football, NASCAR, sex, alcohol, fast food, and celebrity culture. We're so caught up in this whirlwind of media campaign blitzes that we don't even know what's real anymore. Most people in this country value a bag of Doritos more than the plants that provide them oxygen. So many people (not everyone!) have lost what's important.

I don't have all the answers of how to fix this mess we're in, but there needs to be an overhaul of the distribution of wealth. It's not just about the dollar and coin, paper and metal. Working hard doesn't get you shit anymore, though they've always pounded that into our brains; work hard and you'll "make it." We need to find a balance where everyone can contribute and receive, give and take in a free and balanced way. I'm not talking welfare or handouts either.

Something's gonna give and we're about to smack into the brick wall.

I'm confused, why should I take up arms and murder my fellow Americans? and why in the world would anyone else want to do the same?
