Starwind User ID: 4546990 United States 02/12/2012 06:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is bad either way isn't it? If they don't pass its default, if they do pass its crushing austerity and trying to throw money at a hemorrhaging budget that will probably need more money yet again before too long. I saw a figure posted somewhere, I'm trying to find it, but if greece had been allowed to default when they first ran into budget issues in 2009 they would have 36% less debt now. |

Greece will default on march 20th Agreed, but i think it will take a revolution to oust the current government, the Greeks will not react very well if the parliament vote this through. Huge numbers there today... fair play to the greeks. Last Edited by The Scientist on 02/12/2012 06:35 AM |

The Scientist (OP) User ID: 1201183 United Kingdom 02/12/2012 06:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Whatever! Greece has a economy equal to the state of Indiana!!!! Most over blown bunch doomm shit ever!!!! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1313288 I read somewhere that the top 5 US banks are responsible for 97% of Credit Default Swaps (CDS), if Greece goes down the CDS cascade begins. Nobody knows where that would lead, but one things for sure, its not going to be a nice place to be. Last Edited by The Scientist on 02/12/2012 06:42 AM |

Most over blown bunch doomm shit ever!!!! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1313288 You are missing the point. Its not about the size in money. In the US, if indiana defaulted it wouldnt really be that big a deal. But thats not what is happening in greece, their entire country is defaulting. |

Yeah, I believe they have to approve the package today to be able to meet a Feb 17th deadline to deal with investors which leads to another deadline, etc etc. They keep putting things off but I believe today might be one of the last chances to do so. This is a pretty fucked up situation though. If they don't pass the bill its some kind of unforeseen global economic implications, if they do pass it its 70% write down on greek debt, more and more austerity, more unemployment, and more than likely they'll need another bailout before too long. |

It will also open the door for the rest of the PIGS to demand debt write downs, I know Ireland are seriously pushing for this. |
