Anonymous Coward User ID: 10401141 United States 02/19/2012 04:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | about 97% of the population has had a root canal I'm guessing. How about, to need one, you'd have to have neglected your oral hygiene. Which would be another indicator that you're in the risk zone. Above poster has it... 100% of them has been drinking water. Two independent numbers might look to be important, but similarity is not causation. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 5240732 United States 02/19/2012 04:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I belive it. I had a root canal done a few years ago, and shortly after noticed slight swelling/protrusion on that side of my face. Xrays didn't show the cause, and the dentist told me TMJ. But I never had it before the root canal.. I also began experiencing hives the next week, that would appear out of the blue, nearly every day, for no apparent reason. Multiple allergists failed to find the cause and diagnosed me with "idiopathic urticaria" I still have these problems today, as well as the new development of heart palpitations. I have had bloodwork to rule out obvious causes like thyroid. I am convinced all of this has something to do with that damn tooth, which to this day is still tender/swollen around the gums and bleeds a lot. I no longer have dental insurance, but am saving up to just get the tooth pulled. I have recently read too many stories of serious, undicovered infections from root canals destroying peoples' health. I will NEVER get a root canal again. |

This just makes you depressed -- I had more root canals in my teens than most adults. Of course, I had no say in the matter. When I was in my early 20s, not too long ago -- I had not one, not two, but three root canals on one tooth. Had to see a specialist and the oral surgery was murder. Of course I've had poor health since childhood and in the last year had to go through more medical procedures to last me a couple lifetimes over. Including treatment under a hematologist/oncologist. I have no doubt whatsoever that dental hygiene and the choice materials dentists use play a crucial role in our health. |

That is to say; the multiple root canal I experienced was due to a botched one in my teens, that the second dentist botched again. Which landed me at a specialist after rounds of antibiotics and alternative care. Absolute murder; the entire experience. |

They have done studies on teeth from tribes that ate only food from their region and teeth were not crocked or rotting. Like wild animals I suppose they chipped a tooth or got a bone stuck under the gums and infected it, then they would have to pull it or have it worked on, but nothing like today tooth troubles.
