South Korea said Sunday it will conduct joint live-fire drills with the United States Monday as scheduled near the disputed western sea border despite a North Korean warning of military retaliation. The joint exercise will continue until Friday.

The decision came hours after North Korea issued a statement Sunday calling on residents of five South Korean islands near the border to “evacuate to safe areas” before the beginning of the drills at 9 a.m.




..According to military officials, the upcoming exercise will involve the 7,600-ton Aegis destroyer “Yulgok Yi I,” which was deployed last year, plus about 20 other vessels, Lynx helicopters and P3-C anti-submarine surveillance aircraft.

Last time they shelled the island there was basically no response, so I'd expect the same if it happens again. S.Korea don't want war. The only way shit hits the fan is if N.Korea are stupid enough to either directly attack Seoul or to invade, neither of which seem likely.

I don't think they'll fire on the island in an exact time frame either...it may take a day or so until the NK's actually do something, but then again stranger things have happened so who am I to say. It'll be interesting to say the least if the SK's still go through with it and indications are that the drills are still a go.

So basically NK is threatening to blow up water and. cuttlefish.
I think everything will be fine.

just so happens I'm watching Battle Los Angeles while on here....favorite part is when they are helicoptering into the combat zone. awesoem visuals there.

Agreed, it's definitely worth keeping an eye on though. As has been said, Kim Jong Un may want to prove a point that he's willing to do the same or more than his father.

I'd be more worried if he isn't alive, since that would imply that the military is in charge, which is likely to end badly.

I don't suppose this needs to be a global affair. I imagine the US will run away and leave SK holding the can..

NK hasn't got much of a hope of invading anyone but it can keep its strange order in its own back yard.

One hopes the N and S will find a way to get along - without the US and their bases.

One also hopes if the Americans back off that other nations with US troops will take note and rid themselves too of the Empire's stormtroopers.

One hopes that if the NKs get sufficiently encouraged so they try their hand at invading neighbouring countries that they get their bitter land turned into glass and that the long-suffering citizens can start again with a clean sheet.

North korea OPENLY attacked a South Korean island and killed multiple civilians and multiple south korean soldiers.
But it never escalated.

Now I to believe that next time might be different, but it is simply impossible to say what will happen in the next north korean-south korean conflict.

It's also why I gave up trying to predict the stock market lol.

maybe they are backing off now instead of just having the drills...the shooting has to violate their waters?

The problem there is that their definition of their waters overlaps somewhat with S.Korea's...
