Re: Is it right to put an animal out of its misery?
When I was about 17 and a relatively new driver. While driving on a two lane road in the suburbs, with some friends, a rabbit ran across the road in front of me. I put on the brakes but it was too close and We heard the car hit it.

I pulled over to the side of the road and my friends and I started looking in the brush along the side of the road. We found it lying on its side panting briskly and some blood coming from its mouth. We discussed what to do and I decided since I had hit it I would take it to a Vet in hopes the bunny could be saved. I picked him up gently with both hands under him supporting his head and body together and then, It died in my hands.

We left the bunny there and went on our way. It was very traumatic for me but I realized all I could do was say a prayer for the rabbit's soul.

Holy shit, he doesn't have a broken neck, he has "head tilt"

It's pretty common and easily curable!

Just fed him with a dropper, HES GONNA MAKE IT!!!!

I seen a growed up rabbit like that once. I stepped on it's head and took it home and ate it. They taste real good. Just step on it's head and roll it around with your foot. That will kill it. Hell, skinning them usually kills them. Well, not so much the skinning as the gutting. Either way....SUPPER!!

Most veterinarians do not charge to euthanize wild animals.

This type of situation is one of the few things that I can't resolve in my mind. Another is organ donation - I know it's the "right" thing to do, but still I pause to sign up.

Don't put yourself in the position of being an organ donor - there's too much incentive for doctors, hospitals and organ brokers (yes "organ brokers") to let you die and sell your organs = big bucks!

Be careful of signing a "Do Not Resuscitate" (DNR) order as well - lots of supposed medical professionals regard this as "Do Not Treat", even when the patient does not meet the criteria for DNR - especially if the patient is elderly.

Yes. if said animal is in pain and going to die anyways then yes. I believe the same should be for humans too.

I once hit a rabbit with my Volkswagen Rabbit. It's cute little bunny head made a sicking sound as it's scull was pulverized by the oil pan.

The VW rabbit was unharmed.

Re: Is it right to put an animal out of its misery?
Just wondering, spiritually speaking...

There is a baby bunny we found in the back yard today with a broken neck. He cannot sit up straight and can only twirl around in fear when we come near. He cannot walk. He seems to be just laying there panting now. He is breathing very fast and his eyes seem to be rolling back into his head.

Should we put him out of his misery? He seems to be in a lot of pain.

If yes, how should we do it? We don't have any guns here

I don't believe it is people wanting to put an animal out of it's misery is the problem - it is people not wanting to suffer misery watching an animal in misery - that is the problem
