True, but take egypt: today 6x million people, in 2020 8x million people, no industry, no basics to participate in global trade, no exports, no nothing, no work.

What means do they have to handle that ?
Prices are going to go up, thats a fact.

The question is: Even if there would be the best ever champion president, he cannot handle that. And egypt is even better off than others.

I think the prices of basic food, is one of those excelarators, not talked about, because we don't care, but definitly an excelarators.
 Quoting: ^àTOn^

Egypt went from 16 million people in 1930s to 80+ million today. A growth of 500% in 80 years. And is projected to reach 100 million by 2025!
 Quoting: Vlad Tepes

Yes, you are right. The basic surrounding settings are now not the same as they were.

Neither the global economic situation will be the same, and nither the food price situation will be the same.

Despite talk of Iran strike, Israel may be banking on an exit strategy

[link to www.haaretz.com]

"There are two key 'exit stations' for Israel to back down on its threat: A meeting between Netanyahu and Obama in September and a joint U.S.-Israeli military exercise in October."

Any thoughts from the connected posters among us, if this is serious or not ?

Coming from haaretz and knowing the disinformation, not likely. Bibi may not even meet with Obahmah. he may strike earlier. Look at what Obahmah is doing:

Report: U.S. scales back joint military exercise with Israel

Time Magazine reports number of American troops in mid-October exercise to be cut by two-thirds, in what a senior Israeli official says is a message of mistrust conveyed by Washington.

These attitudes of the U.S. government are catching me by surprise. I did not expect Obama's opposition to the plans of containing Iranian nuclear project would be so strong to the point of change military agreements with Israel. wtf

Remember that Obahmah is a narcisist(sp?) who care only for himself and self-grandisement. Israel through her refusal to wait, her refusal to bow makes Obahmah think Israel is picking on him and it has become big news and he does not like it, how dare anyone question and not listen to the great Obahmah, shock! Obahmah must do something he thinks in his mind to amke everyone know they should not disrespect him, the greatest. He starts by paying off people to talk bad about an Israeli strike, he starts leaking classified and secret information of the pending Israeli attacks, he then starts cutting back plans of friendship with Israel. To Obahmah's shock it is not working yet.

Did I also mention Obahmah has never liked Israel, he is having a difficult time hiding it now as the pressure builds and the fact Israel has not listened yet.

My opinion remains that Israeli concerns will be far more focused and immediate. I maintain my belief that Iran is not the primary short term target of choice for the IDF.

I think it is in their interests to remove the 'clear and present danger' of Hezbollah first. While some concern is certainly valid for the NE border as well as their southern border, somewhat diminished in recent days, the primary threat is within Lebanon. Remove it and the card house falls down.

Deployments of new systems center around the Hezbollah threat and it is far more doable than a total regional war. Some will believe that attacking Hezbollah must equal a regional conflagration, but I do not believe other states would join the fray if it were a convincing Israeli offensive. The concern then is whether Israel CAN convincingly engage with minimal political fall out and can win. The last round was a draw.

Anything short of liquidation of Hezbollah seems outside the norm of Israeli strategy and while boldness is a signature theme, they also normally choose smaller far more executable quick operations that maximize gains and minimize risk. Total war is not a choice I expect them to make. An attack on Iran can only escalate into a wider war that would involve far too much chaos to control.

My own opinion (and that is all it is) is that if Israel singlehandidly carries out an attack on Iran the Iranians whether rational or not will respond by trying to block the Straits requireing a Western response. O could care less whether the Israeli's attack Iran it's the oil issue which is driving his policy. If Israel could attack successfully while guaranteeing him no Straits disruption there would be little or no disagreement. Remember Putin's supposed statement when asked about this situation that being the Israeli's will handle this problem. The difference is that Russia could very well profit from the reduction of Arab Oil and Gas. The US on the other hand while not having the exposure that many industrialized nations due to that supply could stand to lose many supposed allies. Just sayin.......

IAF Strikes Terror Targets in Gaza

IAF aircraft struck two centers of terrorist activity in northern Gaza on Friday night, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit reported.

The statement said that direct hits were identified and all aircraft returned safely to their bases.

The attack came in response to high trajectory fire into Israeli territory, said the statement.

DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis September 1, 2012,

Putin gave Obama more time US Gen. Martin Dempsey’s assertion Thursday, Aug. 30 that the US would not be “complicit” in an Israel strike against Iran, together with the drastic reduction in the scale of next month’s joint US-Israeli war game disclosed by TIME, add up to a blunt message from US President Barack Obama to Israel: You are on your own! See how you manage without special US weapons and US military backup, including a shield against missile counter-attack, if you decide to defy us and go through with a military operation against Iran.

debkafile’s military sources: The Obama administration has put Israel on harsh notice that an attack on Iran to disrupt or delay its nuclear armament will be refused US missile backup - both in the course of the operation and to cover Israel’s back in the event of a counter-strike widening into a general Middle East conflict. The Netanyahu government will bear full and exclusive responsibility for the consequences of attacking Iran.

Obama, who has repeatedly pledged his commitment to Israeli security, is the first American president to cut Israeli adrift against a major threat to its security explicitly posed by Iran.

In the last month, Obama has undergone a change of face: The top US soldier and ambassador Dan Shapiro were told to start treating Israel like a pest and telling its leaders that the administration is fed to the teeth with their clamor for action on Iran.

This change did not come out of the blue. debkafile’s Washington and Moscow sources report it evolved from three events:
1. During this month, President Vladimir Putin severed Russia’s military ties with Iran and Syria as debkafile reported earlier: Obama reciprocated by cutting Israel down to size. Moscow informed Tehran and Damascus that there would be no more Russian arms supplies after the delivery of the last items in the pipeline. Putin therefore left both Iran and Syria high and dry amid war dangers in return for Obama cutting Israel off from advance military hardware at a time of peril.
The Russian and American leaders thus put in place the first bricks of an accord for resolving their disputes over a nuclear Iran and the Syrian crisis by the device of slashing the military capacity of Iran, Israel and Syria.
The Russian president took another step as a gesture to Obama: He pulled Russian warships out of the Syrian base of Tartus and the eastern Mediterranean, leaving only a floating dry dock.
In return, he counted on Washington forcing Israel to abandon any plans to strike Iran.
2. But this exercise in symmetrical reciprocity ran into a major snag: Obama found a tough nut in Jerusalem: Binyamin Netanyahu held out for a pledge of US military action against Iran as his price for holding back. Despite the massive pressure Obama threw at the Israeli government, both through the highest ranking US political and military channels and by mobilizing the government’s most vocal opponents and anti-war circles at home, Netanyahu and Barak did not budge.
They understood, despite Obama’s concealment, that the secret US-Russian deal would in fact preserve Iran’s nuclear program at a point at which Iran’s leaders could have a weapon assembled and unsheathed at any moment.
The also realized that as long as Israel’s military option against Iran was alive, the Obama-Putin deal was stuck, because both Iran’s Ali Khamenei and Syria’s Bashar Assad would likewise refuse to fall into line.

When Romney said he would give America’s friends “more loyalty” and Putin “a little less flexibility and more backbone,” he was referring to President Obama’s request from Putin on June 18, at the G20 conference in Mexico, for more time against his promise to the Russian leader of “more flexibility” later.
To keep his deal with Putin in motion, the US president will have to tighten his squeeze on Israel’s leaders to forego an attack on Iran.

Wall Street Journal: Israelis are right not to trust Obama on Iran
DEBKAfile September 1, 2012, 4:20 PM (GMT+02:00)
In an editorial Friday, the Wall Street Journal says it is no wonder Israelis are upset when President Obama who is fond of saying he “has Israel’s back” tries to sell “a make-believe world” of peaceful Iranian nuclear intensions, working sanctions and successful diplomacy. This “head-in-the-sand performance” is why many Israeli decision-makers believe “they had better strike sooner than later.” The WST says a president who really had Israel’s back would publicly contradict the Dempsey warning against an Israeli strike and his comment “I don’t want to be complicit if they choose to do it.”

Iran to hold major air defense drill to simulate emergency situations
Iranian commander says drill to include both the army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; it follows a series of large-scale military simulations such as the 'Great Prophet 7' missile exercises which took place in July.

those are the key aspects to consider. Iran in the visible parts of its program does not have a nuclear weapon and may not have one built before Romney comes into office. Then we must weigh what are the chances Romney wins. That is less than 50 percent when one considers ways Obahmah could cancel an election.
Israel is now being pushed into a corner. No support from the US may mean using greater power in an attack than wished for.
Bibi really blew it trusting Obahmah.

In the last month, Obama has undergone a change of face: The top US soldier and ambassador Dan Shapiro were told to st
art treating Israel like a pest and telling its leaders that the administration is fed to the teeth with their clamor for action on Iran.

Thread: US disowns Israel over Iran strike: No weapons or military backup
 Quoting: Gerry52

We have warned that Obahmah could not be trusted.

What do you think Gerry, Israel willing to go it alone stil?
 Quoting: MIL MAN

Either they go it alone forcing Obamas hand if the strait is shut down or they just resign themselves to a nuclear Iran. I can't see that they have many other choices right now. They could also wait and hope that Romney is elected and he helps them out. I would think they are waiting to see what direction the election here takes before doing anything. After all, Iran is not going to have a functional device between now and the election provided they don't already have one.
 Quoting: Gerry52

those are the key aspects to consider.
60 day countdown begins towards a nuclear Iran or Israel striking.
 Quoting: MIL MAN

I am not sure exactly what the procedure would be, however I am positive that a president can not cancel an election on his own. It has never happened in our history and I don't think even WWIII could stop it from occurring. You are correct that Romney has less than a 50% chance of winning the presidency based upon past performances, however I do believe this election will be very close. I just can't imagine Israel going up against the entire ME with no support. I can however see a surgical strike on the nuclear labs and facilities in Iran as they have done in the past. Even though these facilities are within mountains they have soft points, the entrances can be so badly damaged that the labs will be unusable for at least several months. Also keep in mind that there is a distinct chance that anyone working in the labs at the time of the strike will die from starvation, suffocation, radiological poisoning or hydro-static shock. These deaths will further set back the development of a nuclear weapon by wiping out their current brain trust including engineers, scientists, highly trained workers and support personnel. It will buy them time to plan their next moves.

Iranian official: We'll act if US stupidly attacks Syria

"In the case of American stupidity and a military attack by this country on Syria, the joint military pact of Syria's allies would be implemented," Assoudi said.

Iran and Syria signed a mutual defense pact in 2006, but little is known of its details, or whether there are any other signatories.

Ok, checked the last posts, it is not posted yet: the following is a google translation, for my friends who don't speak german :-):

Iran and NK cooperate and join "Iran and North Korea have signed a scientific and technological cooperation agreement. Iran's state television, according to met in Tehran, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and North Korea's number two, Kim Yong Nam.

Tehran - It is a pact between two countries that seek nuclear weapons and refuse any cooperation with the West. In Tehran have the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and North Korea's second husband, Kim Yong Nam, met to sign a scientific and technological cooperation agreement. The Iranian state television reported on Saturday without giving further details to mention.

The spiritual leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that North Korea's Kim, the Islamic Republic and North Korea have common enemies and both should sit down to defend against threats and pressure to achieve their goals. In the past, both countries had declared their nations were sitting in the fight against the Western powers together in "the trenches."

I guess that might change it.

The next missile launch from NK to the US west coast might be successfull, and the next NK iranian nuke detonation might actually be a detonation and not a poooop.

Ouups Obama, an alliance is forming against all the rest of this world, ouuups didn't see it coming, did ya, ouups the question is:

NOW WHAT ?

Iran to hold major air defense drill

The game with that drills is, that opponents tend to look and analyse what was done.

In that logic, you wait and plan and organize for that event, you would not interrupt it, a whole administrative is working on it.

I have a bad feeling, really, a very bad feeling, and I didn't had a bad feeling up until now.

Steve, what are the news ? Did you get connected lately ?
