Australia's Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe lost his way kayaking in the waters off New York's Long Island and had to be rescued by a US Coast Guard boat.

The 48-year-old actor who lives on the edge of Sydney Harbour, was kayaking with a friend and launched from Cold Spring Harbor on Saturday afternoon on the Long Island Sound, according to US Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Swieciki.
