WHEN DID THE GOVERNMENTS DECLARE THEMSELVES AS A GOD? | |

Quoting: Fooled It's as simple as this. When you went to school, and you and your classmates elected a leader in your class, to relay to the headmaster any problem, did they act like Gods? No! The person is only selected because you need a person to gather and pay attention to the class pupils concern and help make things better. So, how the f... did a supposedly democratic country become so controlling of a nation? They have no right in doing what they do! that is what antichrists do, after all. |

Not bible thumping, just thought it was relevant. Israel Asks for a King 8 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders.[a] 2 The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. 3 But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice. 4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.” 6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. 7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.” 10 Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle[c] and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.” 19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.” 21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. 22 The Lord answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.” |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24423715 United States 10/05/2012 01:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | from the beginnings of history there have always been kings who share their power with priests. always an alliance of sorts. the king needed the support of the people, and the priests needed earthly power of the kings to enforce and preserve their religion among the people. rarely has there ever been a king who was a priest, or a priest who was a king. the closest to that was when a king was declared to be a descendent of the gods (such as a Pharaoh or Chinese king) or priests got the people to take priestly rule as if they were kings (Hebrews). until, in Asia Minor, where the people are weak-minded and the tyrannies were brutal, sometime in the murky depths of antiquity, a king declared himself a god. thus began the "oriental despots". the other part of the world, mediterranean and middle east, wasn't like that, as described above. however when Alexander the Great conquered Asia Minor he brought back many religious and government/political ideas with him. in his wish to unify the entire known world under Hellenization (which succeeded) he also declared himself a god. thence it was introduced to our western world. the Greeks themselves laughed at such a scheme as ridiculous and impious. it died out with Alexander. but it set a precedent. the Romans, who increasingly associated their Senators and Emperors with the gods, still did not say they were gods. except the occasional eccentric emperor. the gods were surely necessary to the function of the state, some emperors were said to have been descendants of the gods, some were made gods after their death, but that was as far as that went. when the Roman Empire dissolved, the Catholic Church was left mostly intact and operating out of Rome. they desired power, an earthly realm, but the one they had was gone. so they went north to the barbarian areas looking for suckers. they found the most powerful kings and offered "the inheritance of Rome" in trade for allegiance to the church. they found their sucker in Charlemagne. he was most impressed with the splendor (and apparent power) of the Church, so they invited him to a ceremony, and as he bowed before the Pope, the Pope whipped out a crown and crowned him Emperor of Rome. (yes, that is how it happened) they got their kingly servant and the King became Emperor. this is the one who turned most of Europe into Christians and fought off the Muslim conquest of Europe. still the Emperor was not a god, nor any kings. after Charlemagne practically all kings in Europe were subservient to the Church, but what happened next explains how "governments declared themselves as a god": the development of the doctrine of Divine Right Of Kings. all kingdoms might as well have been the earthly embodiment of the Kingdom of God (and were treated as such) under the auspices of the Church, until the American Revolution made the first government that completely discarded that scheme of things. |

So, how the f... did a supposedly democratic country become so controlling of a nation? They have no right in doing what they do! the "class leader" doesn't act like a god because he can't. nobody would let him. he has to answer to his classmates, the teachers, the principal, his parents, and finally, the police. what if the "class leader" had hundreds of thousands of armed warriors to enforce his whim? what if he had a territory he controlled, decreed its laws, and had the power of life and death over everyone in it? what if everyone agreed with anything he said, out of fear of death, including that he was a god? it would probably not be long before he says he is a god. he could have anything he wanted, and make everything how he wanted. for the good of his kingdom, in the name of God... that is, himself, which is most important of all to his country. a democratic country becomes controlling when some people in it start thinking that "everyone else" should do things their way. it's called "tyranny of the masses". it's an attempt to make kings out of the majority. and why would they do this? because they can. like the example of the "class leader" above, to some extent. "because they can". when those conditions exist, the people think it's okay for the government to become oppressive, because, of course, the government is merely fulfilling their will- that majority who wishes to be tyrant. right? it's for the good of the country. but then there are different majorities who want to be tyrant, some come and some go, and it's not long before there is nothing left but factions squabbling over who gets to be tyrant and a government that does not respect the rights of anybody. only the government wins in the end. tyranny of the masses should be resisted by each individual at all cost, including the urge to partake of it yourself. it is wrong, it leads to ruin. |
