Drivers Thirsty for Gas After Blackout

Erin Bennett of Mission Valley made it to the Costco gas station in Mission Valley this morning - but just barely.

Bennet was like hundreds of San Diegans running on fumes when power was cut off at the gas pumps, he said.

"I thought I was gonna run out of gas," said Bennett. "I ended up getting home last night and barely made it to the gas station."

Ethanol Output in U.S. Fell 3% to 785,000 Barrels a Day

U.S. ethanol production fell 3 percent last week to 785,000 barrels a day, the least since the Energy Department began publishing weekly data in 2010.

Output sank for the second week in a row. Inventories plummeted 2.3 percent, the most in eight weeks, to 18.8 million barrels, the department said.

Looks like the south has the cheapest gas. New York, California, and parts of west coast are the priciest.

9 PM / Thursday evening. Just spoke to an ex-spouse who lives in Lake Elsinore and was down in Oceanside babysitting her granddaughters for the past four days. No problem getting gas on the way down Monday. Today, she looked for a place in Oceanside to fill up anticipating going back up to Lake Elsinore tomorrow. She finally found gas at one of the inland Shell stations many miles east/ inland from the beaches and the 404/5/freeways corridors. But she paid $4.35 for regular. Costco in Oceanside says they still have gas but don't know for how long. She drove inland rather than standing in line at Costco for a 'maybe' supply. She's thinking seriously about staying in Oceanside with our son vs driving home only to come back on Monday evening.

Might be a great weekend to go shopping for a BMW Diesel 3 series or even a Chevy Volt! At least you can finance them for practically nothing in terms of interest rate and the fuel savings at $4/5 per gallon may soon offset the cost of the increased car payment.

That is exactly right. The funny thing is, the federal government is on vacation right now so there is absolutely nothing they can do to address the issue (not like they would). California's government did this to themselves, you reap what you sow and a long list of ridiculous energy regulations will give you super-high gas costs.

Just pray that the local blends of gas are a thing of the past by next year, because gas will be 3X as much with the shortage of corn.
