Soaring gas prices across California have forced some station owners to shut off their pumps while people change their driving habits or, in some cases, avoid driving all together.

A gallon of regular gas was $5.69 Thursday in Calabasas, while a gallon of super costs $5.89 with cash and $5.99 with credit. Such prices are causing pain at the pump for many drivers who might see an 11-cent increase by later this morning, which means some could be paying more than $6 a gallon.

Gas Prices Spike as Wholesale Supplies Dwindle

Many retailers are refusing to buy at high prices. Those who do are charging as much as $5.79 for a gallon of regular.

why does the states always have issues?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2595311

Because public transit is socialist.
Where as the highway system was bestowed on us without any government intervention or taxation, a gift straight from GOD himself.

Well atleast that is what people seem to think, having bought fossil fuel industry propaganda hook line and sinker.
"America is too big for transit" yet every pre 1950s small town in this country has an old decaying rail station.

Even if there is a gas shortage, the car will still run on alcohol if it is flex fuel. Go grab yourself a converter kit if it isn't and quit worrying. Then can just ferment and distill your yard clippings, dump it in the gas tank and you'd be all set.

Due to Visa & Mastercard charging 3% per transaction. Oh and don't forget since the banks got spanked for charging the exhorbant over draft fees.. They raised the cost of useing the credit card instead of debit in which they still make the .50 cent per transaction... Don't worry it's all business as usual... Go back to sleep....

Every time someone in EU mentions that I have to ask this... What do you consider a long trip? I have to drive 60 miles round trip just to get groceries. Spaces and towns are a bit farther apart in the USA.
 Quoting: MaryAlananB

Yes, they are. I have a friend in Texas whose parents' driveway is 7 miles! We have counties all over that are as large as some EU countires.

You are totally FOS as the facts bear out. You do not see us in a panic even in the midst of hurricanes, earthquakes WTC collapse or anything else and it is not us who are burning property and cars in the streets just for the hell of it. That would be you eurotards.

Please cite examples of when and how we have panicked as I contend we are among the least so inclined on the planet. I persoanlly have never seen any panic in my entire life.

Re: Tweets from around the U.S. " long lines at gas stations right now!" Panic buying! Fights!
For most of the US there is not a problem with gas availability. There is a lot of fear and uncertainty that gas will be available when needed. Friends have texted and called all last night to make sure I'd seen the news. Local TV stations are advising that motorists fill their tanks whenever they are below 1/4 and above 1/2 marks. Keeping the tank topped off as much as possible means you'll at least have nearly a full tank if you have to ride out a few days without gasoline.

Home Depot is selling a 10 gallon gasoline storage container on wheels with an optional pump unit for $129.95 plus another 70 or 80 for the pumping unit if you want it. Ten gallons is a bit unwieldy. You couldn't easily pour that into your tank if you wanted to. So the pumping unit is going to prove almost a necessity I think. The idea of a bunch of stupid people storing 10 gallons or more of gasoline in their garages scares me far more than the fuel shortage threat does!
