JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli police say an American tourist has opened fire at a hotel in the resort city of Eilat, killing one person.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the tourist fired a number of shots Friday morning at the Leonardo Club hotel in the Red Sea resort city. The suspect is still inside the hotel, Rosenfeld said, and large numbers of police units are at the scene.

Rosenfeld said suspect's identity and the motives of the attack are unknown.

Police have surrounded the hotel and have called in "a large number of units to deal with the situation", spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

American tourist working in hotel kitchen grabs security guard's gun, opens fire after argument breaks out; several guests suffering from shock, MDA treating critically injured man.

The man is reportedly an American tourist who worked at the hotel kitchen, Israel Radio reported.

The man got into an argument with one of the other employees. When the hotel's security guard tried to break up the fight, the man grabbed his gun and started shooting.

strange, but not that uncommon. If he is a young guy just travelling around Israel, he could easily get a job at a restaurant to pick up some extra money. Backpackers do it all the time.

The Counterterrorism Unit succeeded in taking control of the situation and arrested the gunman.

He's been shot.

"Officers with the police's Counter-Terrorism Unit then broke into the room and attempted to apprehend the shooter. The man opened fire on police and was shot and killed."
