Voter ID Laws

Anytime there is a debate about voter ID laws, the liberals always claim that it places a hardship on the elderly, poor and minorities to require they show ID to vote.

Well what about the states that already require an ID at the polls ? Why should there be a difference from state to state as to who might be inconvenienced by producing an ID ?I believe that the rules should be consistant for all Americans in a Federal election.
