Some days ago in italy the government passed a law that will discharge vatican from paying a new emergency tax that we poor people are forced to pay to "save" italy from bankruptcy. Also we italian people are forced by law to pay vatican 1 billion of euros each year. So please mr. pope SHUT THE FUCK UP at least.

My first reaction was wtf?! but I can see the point,
the Church exists within a world that requires money to accomplish anything, it doesn't fall down from the skies, or appear with magic.
If you are a member, then you have duties to fulfill.

I'd like to think State and Church would be better off being kept separate, but since this isn't the case in Germany, the Church has to act to ensure her continuity.

Everything cost money including running a church, and the Catholic church has been losing money and followers since the sex scandals. The reason for this tax is that it funds German kindergarten, housing and food for the poor, the homeless and the elderly. When people stop giving and just sit in church week after week, it negates the very premise of the church which is to help your fellow man in need. So maybe their stance is if you don't want to give to help others ...stop taking from us. I agree it is a bit extreme...but maybe their last option.
