Syria bans Turkish commercial flights from its airspace, state-run news agency says

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) -- Syria's state-run news agency SANA says Syria decided to ban Turkish Airlines flights from Syrian airspace.

SANA sent the announcement to reporters in a text message late Saturday, but did not elaborate.

A car bomb blast has killed eight people, including a child and two women, near the Syrian capital.

Eight civilians, including a young girl and two women, were killed and 13 others critically injured by a car bomb blast in Al-Nabak on the road linking Damascus to Homs, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Syria Deploys Missiles near Border with Lebanon

[An Nahar] The Syrian army deployed advanced surface-to-air missiles along the northern border district of Akkar, Ad Diyar newspaper reported on Friday.

According to the report, the missiles can shoot down advanced military warplanes.

The newspaper said that Syria's step is precautionary in case Turkey uses Lebanese territories to attack it.

Syria fighting rages as Damascus bans Turkish flights

Fighting raged between troops and rebels in Syria as Damascus ratcheted up the tension with Ankara by banning all Turkish passenger flights from Syrian airspace from Sunday.

Rebels and activists said a Syrian regime warplane was shot down near Aleppo, while part of the embattled northern city's historic Ummayad mosque was set ablaze in fighting as rebels attacks army positions inside, monitors said.

And a car bomb blast near Damascus killed eight people, including a child and two women, in Al-Nabak on the road to Homs province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

And according to breaking info here they just have sailed and take battle positions under the pretext of navy exercise with the Egyptian navy that was announced last week, that covers an area from Crete and Dodecanese to Cyprus, so Greek surveillance system has been put on high alert also. Russian electronic warfare ships patrolling the coast of Syria are monitoring the situation as Turkish naval cooperation aircrafts have taken off and approaching the region.
