The possibility of a terror attack has not discouraged Prime Minister Julia Gillard from attending a service in Indonesia to mark the 10th anniversary of the Bali bombing.

Bali's terror alert level has been raised to its highest level in the wake of the threat, which was revealed on Wednesday morning.

"Based on credible information, the terrorists have planned to target the Bali bombing commemoration event with a terror attack," Bali deputy police chief I Ketut Untung Yoga Ana told AFP.

"Security at all entry points to Bali, such as airports and seaports will be intensified," he said, adding that security was at the "highest level".

"We are taking extraordinary security measures following this threat," he said, after earlier announcing that 1,000 security personnel including snipers, heavily armed police commandos and intelligence agents had been deployed.

They used a micro nuke in Bali to influence the Australians to get on board with the invasion of the middle east. Its amazing what that little bomb did, just check out the story on u tube. CIA killed one reporter that suggested a nuke was involved and they pulled the other reporters citizenship and tossed him out of Indonesia.

47 buildings destroyed or damaged beyond repair, hundreds incinerated instantly and hundreds of survivors with burns and skin falling off yet people really believe a simple car bomb did that.

Bali is the only Buddhist island in Indonesia btw.

More like a... Get in line strategy I think... I don't think in was organized by us... Although some few would have known about it. A show of power... I was 12 when it happened. Now only do I see.

Not Buddhist... Hindu. They didn't do it anyway. Bali's a place the Aussies like to go to, so it was chosen to send the message. The Balinese economy suffered from it because the tourist trade went down after. It wasn't Balinese - that's for sure.

It was used to get Australia to support the wars in the middle east.

Any chance Roxy, Milne, Bryce, Wong, Hansen-Young will be joining her, they could do us all a favour!
