I need more time, still have cravings. maybe i wouldn't if I kept taking the meds, but they have bad side effects I am told.
 Quoting: Desert Fox

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TAKE THE CHANTIX!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on quitting, tho. When I tried Chantix (5 days) it raised my blood sugar 80 points - and it took over a year to bring it back down to normal.

I relapsed to smoking, but going to try again in about 2 weeks. My last time the craving got worse the third week.

I have heard that accupuncture helps with cravings. May give that a shot this time as well.

Congrats again. Keep at it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25471725

I agree it is dangerous drug, but I had to do something, and got off it in 9 days. I am in my third week after I had my last cig. and cravings are pretty strong. I will not give in tho, I wont.
 Quoting: Desert Fox

Good for you!!!!!! If you have a family history of diabetes, I do suggest you check your sugar levels.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25471725

I will keep an eye on it. I have a test kit.

Smoked for years and years and it was having bad effects on my breathing so trying to quit. Took Chantix for nine days, then said to hell with meds, and going it alone. Haven,t had a Marlboro for over two weeks, how -ever I do get the urge several times a day, but the urge is getting farther apart and easier to get past. Wish me luck.

Good Job Buddy, wish I could say the same but "enjoy" the behaviour too much, its not the cigaretts themselves its the addiction to everything else.. I dont smoke at home, just while driving and whatever else.. Wish i could change that fact that i actually enjoy it.. Its a tough lilmotherfucker to kick.. Dont start again man, everyone i know thats quit for a length of time and has turned around and started again has gotten sick real quick so if you kick it, KICK IT FOR GOOD!!!!!

Good shit dude. I quit on August 26th due to Bronchitis. Haven't had one since and I found it actually pretty easy to do. Cold turkey after 18 years of that crap. Everything is so much easier now. Running, playing with my kid, sleeping at night, food taste better, my sense of smell is much better.

And I gained about 10 lbs. So now I am even worse then when I started. Going to give it another go on monday... this time no drinking as well. Will check in on this thread OP when I get going again... stay strong!
 Quoting: Hawk-02

Take up jogging, thats what I did when I quit and I lost 15lbs so far. Its been just about 2 months. Everytime I get the urge to smoke I just go for a nice run until I no longer want one.

Believe me I loved smoking too. Smoking was involved in every phase of my life. Driving, had to smoke. Mowing the lawn, had to smoke. Coffee, had to smoke. Relaxing on deck, had to smoke. After eating, had to smoke. After sex, had to smoke. Every single thing I did involved smoking. I was a slave to a killer, and paying that killer 50 -60 bucks a week to kill me. So give it a try, get off of them if you can, because in time your lungs will suffer as mine have. Good luck.

All of the above is true. When it is causing you to be ill or hard to breath it is easier. Stay with it my friend, I am planning on it, but not clear yet.

Have you tried the vapor mate or similar tobacco free
electronic cigarettes? 3 months smoike free after 41 years, and the steam looks like smoke !!

As this is as harmful as coffee, I didn't think I would ever
stop vaping, but the addiction becomes so tiny, that if the
battery, or fluid runs out now, I don't get the jitters anymore.

And I was shocked at how easy it was to tell if a person was
a smoker or not ! They all have a dull reek about them.

Good luck...never to late to stop !!

No, I haven't tried them, I may have too but want a clean break if possible. Yes, a smoker does not know how bad the smell. The effect nicotine has to numb the smell of other smokers, is amazing. I never smelled them before quitting.

Don't dwell on how much you miss them/want one/would enjoy one etc. That's as much a waste of your precious lifetime as smoking was. I'm up to my 60th day since i went cold turkey, never looked back or think about it. Had to look that up on a calendar btw heh. I made a few other key life changes for the better to help me along like improved diet and some excercise. Didn't so much "give up smoking" as give up not caring that I smoked. Gave up a reckless disregard for my own health or future. In other words i decided to start to give a damn. I looked in the mirror, didn't like what i saw and decided it ends and starts from here and with me. Simple as that. Never experienced nicotine withdrawal that i'm aware of, just the absence of all the habit and ritual that smoking is. Plenty of other pleasures in life to take its place. Good luck.
