No

it would be non restricted land

Better make sure of that, even rural areas may have stipulations. Where were you planning on doing this?

If you're serious, why not try to buy land next to those of like-minded individuals? I would have to assume someone serious wouldn't want a "land baron" anyway, no offense...I know I wouldn't.

what happens if someone puts in money towards it then you can't get along with them?

What's funny about that is MasterBlaster was 2 men then you had Mad Max. In that case, it was 3 men enter, and it was going to be 2 men leave, but Max spared Blaster.

It would be a good idea not to assume, as far as I know everything in Pennsylvania is zoned SOMETHING and depending on what the zoning is, you can or cannot do/build things. Just because it's wild and free doesn't mean you can do whatever you want, not anymore anyway :(

Yes, for THAT money you will be able to run a small fridge and charge your laptop and have light assuming you have a clear sunny day everyday. During cloudy days you will need to switch it to gas generator or you food will spoil. Your batteries is the most expensive cost in the off grid solar/wind and they only last about 5 years depending on the brand

Re: off the grid is anyone serious
Do you know how regulated farming is? Selling of farm animals especially?

I just put in 1,100 watts of solar with a 432 amp hour 24 volt battery bank, 1kw pure sine inverter. Total when all was said and done was just over $3k.

Be better off finding a small community under 300 and buying a house there. Most of them band together during hard times. Had a tornado go thru here July 1st 2010 and I had a huge pile of tree debris out by the street to haul. People know I am disabled and I woke up the next morning and it was gone. Someone hauled it for me in the middle of the night.

About doing it or do most of you just talk shit about it and never intend on making it a reality

im offerig to buy land and share it with a few people so that we can make this a reality

i would lime wooded and fertile at least 10 acres for farming and firewood

i will pay for the land in full and still have a few bucks to contribute but i can not do it alonee

i need a few people willing to live the slow and peaceful life

a few farm animals
we could grow crops and small game for market
make cheese
have solar and wind and generally live quietly as life was meant to be

Re: off the grid is anyone serious
This is interesting. You need to do a lot of planning - I've been planning for something like this for 3-4 years now, the more you look into it the more you realize you don't know.

Knowing how to Save seeds, animal husbandry, using hand tools, natural food preservation methods, understanding permaculture, and learning how to make most things from scratch are just the tip of the iceberg. "The Encyclopedia of Country Living" is a great book that will get anyone started down the path.

I have the opposite problem as you: I have lots of skills and knowledge but little money for land and livestock. I've just spent the majority of my money on seeds and tools in preparation for going off grid.

Water is a huge concern, need lots of it. Wood for fire, and of course space if you want any livestock or a meaningful harvest of grains.

Bees are a great thing to keep around, honey can be sold. Many veggies can be sold at Farmers Market, etc, and seeds can be sold online for income.

Ive been reading a lot of opinions on the topic and it seems the consensus is that the longer you sit around thinking about doing something like this, you will never do it. People just need to dive in head first and never look back - yes it will be hard at first but you life will be SO MUCH MORE REWARDING.

This is what I want, I envy you and wish you the best of luck in your project sir,
