I agree with the OP. Soldiers, for the most part, are just a bunch of dumb shits that had no other options, or at least the military was the least repulsive option. I know a lot of soldiers, and none of them have ever done a "heroic" thing in their lives. They put on a weapon if they have to because it's their FUCKING JOB, not out of some bullshit sense of duty and heroism. They'll get court marshaled if they don't. And don't even get me started on Navy guys.

I think most soldiers talk about "sacrifice" "heroism" blah blah bullshit, because it's a story they tell themselves to make them feel better about what a shitty ass job they signed up for. I bet if most of these guys had a better way out, they would have taken it.
