All I can say is I'm glad I got mine early on. I hope there is something left for future generations. If thinking like yours (i use that term loosely) becomes the norm, I don't have much hope.

I think a company with 6 CEOs in 8 years; none of whom had any bread and cake baking industry experience, where workers had taken concessions to help the company survive a previous bankruptcy, where Hostess management had already planned to close plants even if the workers accepted the cuts and stayed at work, where top executives had gotten massive raises as Hostess was about to enter bankruptcy, where investments in the company’s future, promised as part of restructuring after the previous bankruptcy, were never made, where management was put in place by private equity companies, Wall Street investors, “restructuring experts”, third-tier managers from other non-baking food companies and currently a “liquidation specialist” were all factors that helped to expedite Hostess demise.

Blaming Unions alone is overly simplistic and and fallacious thinking but hey, this is GLP so I'm not surprised...

Fact is, Wal-Mart's profits are subsidized by the taxpayer, because it purposefully pays wages that place people below the poverty line and thus qualify them for public benefits. There are people in HR depts of WM whose function it is to help employees apply for public benefits, e.g. EBT, AFDC, etc. In CA, employees of WM are 40% more likely to be receiving public assistance than their counterparts that work for other retailers, e.g. Target.

So all you WM fans out there, you must also be fans of enriching the corporate bottom line on the backs of taxpayers.

I'm not. I don't believe that is true capitalism.

Far from a slave, in fact it's quite the opposite and i believe that's a direct result of unions.

Companies with organized labor have them for a reason. At one point or another, they tried to take advantage of their employees.

I like to think of it as administrative karma.

The concept of a union is a good one, but it's abused these days, much like everything else, people are just looking for the easiest way to make the most money and cut the least amount of risks. Unions take all of that into a ball and abuse it to the fullest.

It's foolish to think Wal-Mart CEO's would suffer or the shareholders be forced to sacrifice.

All Wal-Mart would do under unions is RAISE the price of everything so that the average working family is required to infuse money directly into the union's pockets.

Then the unions can once again use their influence to force their members to vote a certain way as they just did for Obama.

So unions really are a way to infuse money into the far left on the backs of the working people once again. They out-priced their member on the world labor scale and cost this country so much in manufacturing that low paying service jobs are all that are left.

But forcing the average working family to pay more for the price of milk and bread to subsidize unions is not going to help anybody except, of course, the union thugs.

These protests all came together very quickly and spontaneously in response to Walmart's request that its employees work on Thanksgiving day.

Walmart told its employees a few weeks before Thanksgiving that they would have to work on Thanksgiving because Walmart's market research is alleged to have found that people want to go shopping as soon as they finished their Thanksgiving dinners.

These protests spontaneously erupted in almost all 50 states.

This isn't a union fail.

No one expects Walmart to fall overnight.

I am an APS employee (journeyman lineman) in PHX, AZ and im happy about the state i'm in. In fact my best friend was going to loss his job because of down-sizing and it was the union that fought for him to keep it.
