Re: Poor Households Earning $13K Per Year Spend Over $1K On Lottery Tickets
The problem is that the western media
is showing a life model which is wrong!

In tv everyone is lucky, beautiful, happy and rich
but no one is working, just fun, sun shine,
sex and consume.

Poor people see this model since childhood
but never see the reality that it is hard
to work properly,
but anyway- in the USA this behavour is normal
and even protected by the law.
(the quest of happiness)

I can understand them because being
poor is no fun and you feel bad!!!

Imo this big jackpots and the media reports
must be stopped, they need to find a
healthy balance!

You people are so fucked in the head. Ragging on poor people because they hope to win on a lottery purchase. What makes them so different from people who have money and play the lottery to get richer? No one seems to remember the rich from the south who was already a millionaire and won a 300 million plus lottery. Ending losing his grand daughter over having more money. And what you cocksuckers especially BRIEF is that most rich people have made their money on the downfall of other people. Perfect example is Hardcore Pawn! Making money on poor people. I always love the parable about rich people - a camel has a better chance fitting through the eye of needle, than a rich person making it into the kingdom of heaven!

Re: Poor Households Earning $13K Per Year Spend Over $1K On Lottery Tickets
Last year I was out of work and having a hard time finding a job.

I offered to cut my nieghbors 15foot hedge that lines his entire yard, it took me almost a week to finish it and clean up the mess. He paid me 300$, I went to dinner that night and put 10$ down on keno and won 5000$.

It was the answer to everything at the time and I would have been screwed financially now had I not won.

So just because you haven't won doesn't mean that people are not winning, you just have bad luck the 10$ risk was worth it at the time.

Also since we are making generalizations about people here in this thread, i've found that most rich people I've met are just tightwads and typically extremely narassitic, lacking any empathy for their fellow man. Rich financially and completly devoid of any moral value.

But each to his own, if you like collecting a bunch of green paper that has no real value in the end, then more power to you.

Just remember you can't take it with you when you go, and your kids will end up hating each other fighting over what's left.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28226020

If you earn the money yourself who cares what the person is like. They can be as selfish or giving as they want. It is the people who 'steal' from others because they are lazy and don't want to work I have a problem with. I have no problem helping out people who are trying to find work or who are working poor and need a break.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

I know a few thats well off thats took plenty off of others and especially the poorer.Of course they dont consider it stealing if they planned it out so they could take advantage of someone struggling to get by.
Vacations are so nice and so much easier to afford if you have someone else paying your basic living expenses. Most of those will say they made it with no help from anyone though.

States across the nation rely on poor suckers to fund their spending. No, we’re not talking about taxpayers – we’re talking about lottery ticket purchasers. According to new studies, households earning $13,000 per year spend almost $1,170 per year on lottery tickets – 9 percent of total income. As it turns out, many people living in poverty make poor financial decisions.

You might be poor if...

You rent your furniture.

You play the lottery.

You buy cheap Chinese crap from Wal-Mart.

You spend more on bailing wire and duct tape than it would cost to replace your leaky tail pipe.

Your TV is bigger than your dinning room table.

It's damned easy to degrade and make jokes about poor people, when you aren't poor.

I've been there and I sincerely hope I don't have to go back to that. I've worked since I was 16, and have several college degrees, but have never made it into the income realm of the "middle class according to Romney." Frankly, these damn politicians and fat ass bankers and "venture capitalists" scare the s*** out of a lot of us that should be okay in our retirement, if they can keep their fingers out of our funds. If not you may be able to make fun of us in a few years. Unless of course, you're in that group too. By the way, I've never bought a lottery ticket.

It's not that they spend it all at once. And face it, poor parents can NEVER fund private education -- the kids are on their own. Savings? haha.

I'll describe this rational decision. Imagine this: everytime they go shopping with the kids they have to deny them sweets, fast food, toys, games, and everything else they might demand. So what simple pleasure will suffice? Buy a lottery ticket,,, it's a game so the kids love it,,, and alot of times you win, not much but watch those little eyes light up!, And shit!, you never know there might be a big payoff and easy street out of poverty.

It's pathetic life for some people, but it is a rational decision....

these snotty rich people living off federal taxes are waging a war on the poor, because they feel their are cutting into their share of the federal slop trough.

6 out of the 10 richest counties are in Maryland and virginia, around Washington, DC, because that's where all the trillions of federal tax money goes, not to poor people, to rich people. The average government worker make $116,000 dollars a year.....and they want MORE. They want the poor people's money, too.

Defense contractors are pissed they can't afford to start a war with Iran, so they want to take away all the medicare and social security and welfare so they can blow people up in Iran.

They seriously want to throw them all out into the streets, so they can murder Americans, also, even more fun to be had.

Rush Limbaugh talks 3 hours a day everyday about poor people buying lottery tickets and alcohol and cigarettes, yet he probably spends $50,000 a year on illegal drugs and oxycontin. The neocons know this and still take him seriously which proves they are full of blind hatred for poor people, truly sick and the purestm, distilled essence of the Anti-Christ spirit.
