Re: 10$ 4 a loaf of bread & a gallon of milk
yep, was at the store last night and the whole grain breads are $3.99. $3.99?! are you effin' kidding me?

the same general weekly groceries that were about $150 a year ago are now costing me $200 and even that's starting to creep up towards $210-$220 lately. as a matter of fact, it's prob less groceries than i used to get bc i've been trying to get back down to the $150 mark but it's like an impossible dream.

i usually get a gal of store brand 2% milk for about 2.89 tho

I bake my own bread, and use powdered milk, which is far cheaper than the regular kind. How much milk do we really need to drink?
 Quoting: INK3

How does it taste?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1055984

You don't even need milk in bread. You can use the liquid from boiling potatoes or even just water. It isn't the milk gives bread its flavor, it is the wheat, yeast and sweetener.

I just bought an area rug (8' x 10') that was beautiful and sculptured for less than $250.00. Almost half my households grocery bills. See anything wrong with that?

Re: 10$ 4 a loaf of bread & a gallon of milk
This sounds about right compared to Northern Virginia, too. Was at Shoppers Food Warehouse today. A sliced loaf, 16-oz, of "bakery fresh" Sourdough bread was $4.99 (that's $5.00 in my book). A gallon of "house brand" whole milk was $4.49 (that's $4.50 in my book, too). Add 2.5% food tax and that is close to $10.00

Now Hubby & I do not consume dairy or grain products. He has Celiac Disease & a casein/lactose intolerance. That doesn't mean our food costs are lower, especially if he wants "gluten-free" goodies. A 6-pak of gluten-free breakfast treat bars, Gluteno brand, is $6.99. A 14-oz loaf of tapioca bread is $7.99...etc., etc., etc.

Who has time to cook & bake? You TAKE the time away from doing something else. Whether it's crashing on the couch after work, sleeping-in on weekends, shuttling children to enrichment programs, or what have you.

Oh, I point the Fickle Finger of Fate directly at our Congressmen & Senators. They are bought & paid for by major corporations & associations. They're the ones who ultimately control these US purse stings. They're the ones who are responsible for spending every last red cent in the coffers and wracking up the astronomical debts...doing everything their corporate masters demand for their patronage.

Goodness me, I sound like my GrandMother. God rest her Soul.

not only is everything more expensive, they keep making the boxes and portions smaller.

Candy at the CVS/Walgreens monopoly is now $1.19, 2 years ago it was 50 cents, and the snickers bars are now half the size they were.

I don't really care though, trying to lose weight.

most of the human beings that live on planet Earth today do not drink or use cow's milk. back away from lactating cow juice and learn to bake bread. better learn thrift cause you will need every penny to pay for energy. by early 2015 you better have learned to survive on next to nothing cause shit is going to be real by then.

Fed To Commit To A Staggering $1 Trillion Of QE For 2013

Goldman also predicts there will be no change in the Fed’s interest rate policy until 2016. So we are talking three full years, 2013, 2014, and 2015 where we will have these near zero interest policies from the Fed. Now as you know, any time you have a net-negative real interest rate environment like this it is friendly to gold.

So you take that near zero interest rate environment, with negative real interest rates, plus close to an additional $2 trillion of upcoming additional QE, and here is what I can say to that: Anyone who does not own physical gold is committing financial suicide.

Why would you buy the most expensive loaf of bread you can to try and make a stupid point; hell I'll sell you a loaf of bread for $95 dollars, now we can make your thread even more ridiculous.

Look at flyers, duh.

You'd have to be a goof to pay such high prices and complain about it, 2 minutes of looking around, you'll find 1 dollar loafs on sale, all the time, somewhere.

As for fuel, yeah thats a c^%&. But that's the luxury of driving.

Re: 10$ 4 a loaf of bread & a gallon of milk
the milk is just antibiotic loaded bodily secretions of diseased animals with the proteins changed thru pasteurization making it deplete your body of calcium and damaging your immune system and antibiotic resistant bacteria in your intestine

your typical bread is loaded with soy proteins which block absorption of vital minerals and wreak havoc with your hormonal balance making you gay as well as HFCS which destroys your liver and gives you diabetes and makes you obese

you're better off not buying that crap anyway

Have some Rye grits and carrot juice instead

"let them eat cake"........

""Let them eat cake" is the traditional translation to English of the French phrase "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche", supposedly spoken by "a great princess" upon learning that the peasants had no bread. Since brioche was enriched with butter and eggs, as opposed to ordinary bread, the quote supposedly would reflect the princess's obliviousness to the condition of the people."

The devaluation of the dollar and increased prices of staple items started long before the current administration came to power. Not a big fan of Obama, but the dollar crashed during the Bush administration, we're just seeing the reverberations now.

Just got home from Southlake Kroger with my receipt in hand...

Horizon 2% milk - 6.69
2 strip steaks - 15.97
6 pack Paulaner Beer - 9.39
Chicken legs - 5.90
ONE bell pepper - 1.56
Dozen Brown Eggs - 2.49
Heinz Ketchup - 2.95
Coffee Creamer - 2.99
Hamburger - 10.63

And the list goes on and on to total 202.88 But don't worry, I saved 12.03 by using my Kroger card..LOL

I'm part of the dying breed that actually cooks meals and we don't out to eat very often. That's the price I pay for being one heck of a good cook. My family like my food better than what they serve in most restaurants.

Since I spend a lot of time and money in grocery stores, I would say on average groceries have gone up about 35% in the past year.

It always amuses me to see people in the store who have decided to try and save money by cooking at home. They gasp at the prices of meat, coffee and milk.

Actually, if you stay out of the frozen food isle and the prepared meals, you can still feed a family way cheaper by cooking than eating at fast food places or doing take out.

I guess the high schools need to bring back home economics class so people can learn how to cook and sew. In this new world of unemployment and inflation those appear to be very valuable skills.
