I lived in NYC for over 12 years, and I must say that despite the bad press, my experience with the NYC police was always wonderful, whether it was after a mugging on the subway or a breakin About 20 years ago my sister lived across a street from a weirdo who would routinely get naked, stand on a chair, flash himself whilst shining a high powered spotlight - the kind you might have at an airport - right into the window of the studio apartments across the way...a building mostly inhabited by young career women Other girls put up with it, but she is feisty, so she finally called the NYPD, and a group of 4 policemen arrived...and one of them said to her, in a strong brooklyn accent: "honey, we're gonna get this clown...you remind me of my sister, and this makes me angry.... I mean, a lady works hard, a lady comes home, a lady shouldn't have to put up with this shit...." ...and they did. Turns out the guy was an executive at CBS (she lived on far west 57th street), and they paraded him naked through the lobby of his expensive doorman building, took him out to the squad car and took him round the blocks a few times to talk to him.... there are good and bad people where ever you go, and the same goes for the police. thank heaven for the good ones out there... |

Plus if it is okay to blast the police for wrong doing, then it is only fair to thank them when they try and do a good thing. Lots call on the police when they need them and think of them as shit when they don't. It must suck being a cop, what a thankless job. |
Matrix-V User ID: 27588863 Canada 11/29/2012 10:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I hate to say this, but it feels like this story is a plant. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1193674 He went and bought a hundred dollar pair of boots for a man that didn't have any, sleeping next to a shoes store, eyeballed his foot size (or got the largest size they had?) and then had the whole story immortalized by a would be reporter on the street? How did the whole story get out? How did the woman know to wait to get the shot? Could it be coincidence that this happened right at the beginning of the Christmas season? I'm not saying it couldn't happen by chance,it's just interesting how much of this would have to be played with normally to get it all to line up. Well, regardless, I hope that the guy got his free pair of boots from it and that it was real in that way. hmm nice angle! I smell a conspiracy! |

In all seriousness, this is a viral video at best and a poor attempt at portraying the police in a better light. It makes a mockery of charity. True charity is anonymous. Think about it. The NYPD shells out 80 bux and gets thousands, if not millions in free advertising and promoting their own viewpoint. Doesn't sound like charity to me, but opportunism. |

Quoting: Lindalee You know, it really is a wonderful gesture of kindness and compassion. He's a good hearted man. BUT.. I had a friend who worked for a certain charity organization. They gave money to the homeless as well as vouchers so they could go buy clothes from their thrift shops. Supposidly one voucher people kept repeatidly coming in for was for shoes. The homeless steal shoes (and other things) from each other, from the "weaker" ones. Someone above you posted something along the lines of 'why didnt he have shoes in the first place?' I would bet because he is seemingly elderly and easy to steal from. So sad to think that though this police officer did a wonderful thing for this man, but maybe by tomorrow those shoes might be gone. Especially since they are brand new and in great condition. :( sad world we live in. People are struggling to survive so they take what they can get even if by stealing. |

Their shoes are always dirty and ratty. There was many that shoplifted new shoes, simply trying them on and walking out. He took his old ones off and probaly waited and sat for someone to give him new ones and his begging came true Officer did him a good thing. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28729734 People do these acts of kindness everyday and sometimes even get arrested for it. Now that a cop does it, he's some kind of hero? Since when are cops not human beings? Hats off to the man that provided footwear to a fellow human of earth, not the cop. There is a saying that goes something like this: "When a pickpocket meetss a saint, all the thief sees are pockets." Likewise a suspicious person sees only suspicion. A cynical person only sees the cynicism. etc. etc. etc. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26764444 United States 11/30/2012 01:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You know things are REALLY BAD when something like this gets tons of mainstream focus. Think about it - people are really THAT SURPRISED that a cop actually SERVED AND PROTECTED a citizen? People probably would expect the average police officer to have maced the poor man or arrested him for trespassing. This shouldn't be a huge shock to anyone, this video shouldn't be spread around so widely - it should be COMMON behavior. SERVE AND PROTECT. |
