1. Stop using the modified weaver, as it puts your support arm below the pistol and tends to pull the gun in that direction (to the left for a right handed shooter). Learn to keep both arms (elbows) level or the support side elbow higher than the firing hand.

2. Do the ball and dummy drill (google it), you are flinching.

3. Look up "trigger reset for GLOCKS" and work on that.

4. Dry fire twice for every live round you shoot.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31297288

Forgot to add, make SURE your firing hand wrist is LOCKED, no side to side or vertical movement. This is way more important on a heavy recoiling 10mm.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31297288

Thanks for the advice!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30513772

You are welcome! There is a part II for the above video.

If you notice, Travis is shooting just to the left of the line in because his wrist was not locked out.

Travis is well trained and practiced, but we ALL need instruction and critical reviews from time to time.

Be safe, and take a new shooter shooting, education is the key for all of us!

Nice, thanks again. Regarding new shooters, my wife is addicted to shooting the 29 now (she wanted a 26, but not anymore) - so there is at least one more shooter coming on the scene soon :)

My biggest problem is 10mm cost of ammo (soon to learn to roll my own though). Before I get into rolling my own I'm getting the Wolf 40 cal conversion barrel so I can shoot more without taking a third job.. I love 10mm, but it's so expensive to practice!

When we move to a friendly CC state (within months), this will be my CC. Love the 29SF!

To be a NRA Instructor you must first complete the Basic Pistol / Rifle / Shotgun course (basic course for whatever Firearm you’re going to teach.)

You will then have to complete the Basic Instructor Course and the instructor course for the firearm you’re going to teach.

To be an Instructor in the Military or for the DOD it would take too long to explain. (But you still have to complete an Instructor class)

First you take the basic course of the discipline. (NRA Basic Pistol, BAsic Rifle.. Etc)

Then you contact a TC - A training counselor that is certified to train instructors. You will take the instructor course with him.

After finishing that course, You will get your credentials in about 4 weeks.

Honestly though, there are tons of decent shooters out there that think they can be instructors. The simple truth is that this is a teaching job, if you are not a good teacher, this isn't for you. Being a good shooter is secondary to the ability to effectively teach.

Yes
But that is like asking a driving instructor if they are every worried about teaching someone to drive that is going to get drunk and kill a family with their car.

What I do before every class is ask people why they want to learn how to shoot, or why they want a CCW. If they give a bad answer (AE they want to shoot there ex if they bug them, or they want to be able to kill someone I give them their money back and send them on their way.

according to the feinstein definition, which i'm assuming that you are inquiring about.. they are.

Threaded barrel

Pistol grip, thumbhole stock or similar where the web of the thumb is below the top of the trigger

Collapsible or folding stock

There are different laws depending on different states at present, but these are the proposed legislation that she is intending to implement in the new law.

For instance, currently bayonet lug is considered one characteristic.. but that's not in the new law as far as i could see when i read it.

Never use pepper spray indoors.

Never spray into the wind.

Never spray elderly people.

Only use pepper spray to gain control. It is not an offensive tool.

Also, keep a few vinegar packets in your kit. Apply vinegar to eyes if you're sprayed immediately, it'll counter the effect.

Tactical vinegar packs FTW!

My CCW is the Taurus Raging Judge Magnum!

It's a true pocket pistol.

Shoots 454 Casull, 45 Colt and 410 shells.

Stand back!!!

But my question is this:

Clip, magazine or are the terms interchangeable in today's world?

If you get Pepper Spray in your eyes the best thing to do is get air on them hold them open for about sixty seconds and you should be good to try and wash it out with water. Most sprays are oil based and the water will spread it.

A clip is a device used to feed a magazine or cylinder of a revolver.

Like an unmodified SKS uses a 10 round stripper clip to feed ammo into an attached "magazine" that then stores the rounds for feeding.

Lee Enfield uses an 5 round stripper clip

Mosin Nagant.....same...

M1 garand uses and 8 round enbloc clip.

What would you recommend for a 1911 style pistol and why? I am thinking about going Kimber, I love them, but might go glock, just because it is much cheaper to shoot.

I already own a 22 revolver and a 380 pistol, the 45 is next on the list.

Question for ya, OP... What's the ballistic coefficienteny of a 556 69 gr bullet with a 1 and 9 twist?

hf
 Quoting: Southern Lighthouse

BC has nothing to do with the barrel twist. bullet mfr is also necessary to know the exact BC...along with the type of bullet..
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17785333

Most .223 or 55.6 barrels are a 1 - 7 twist. You cant fire a 69 Gr bullet in a 1-7 twist Barrel.
 Quoting: USMC0369

Nice disinfo there, most 556/223 are 1-9 twist and for the heavier grains like 75 you want 1-7 twist.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31298482

Question? Is .223 synonymous with 5.56 NATO? also.....what was the original caliber of the AR15 and what or who was the first organization to adopt it and in what year? What was the original barrel twist rate? I know because I carried it, I read books before wiki and met spoke at length with a design team member of Eugene Stoner........

I’m a NRA Pistol / Rifle Instructor ask me any question you like

A Little bit about my back ground. I spent 10 years in the Marine Corps and spent another 6 years working as a Commando and a Weapons instructor for the Iraq, and Afghanistan Commando’s. Furthermore I'm a T-3 Certified Weapons Instructor for the US Government. I’m all so a NRA Pistol / Rifle / Refuse To Be A Victim Instructor and an NRA range Safety Officer.

A few more of my instructor certifications are OC Spray instructor, ASP Instructor, Handcuff Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, DOD RSO / OIC Certified, Ant-terrorism Instructor, First Observer Instructor, Small Arms Weapons expert (SAWE) and a few more that I’m not listing.

Ask me any question about Firearm safety, safe operations, and self-defiance and I will do my best to answer you. I will check in once a day to answer all of your questions.

Here is a free pointer for every one out there that likes to shoot. If you use these four fundamentals every time you will always hit what your aiming at.

4 fundamentals of Shooting

1) Steady Position
2) sight Alignment / sight Pitcher
3) Breathing Contro
4) Trigger Pull / Squeeze

I am a female and I am considering a CCW permit, but with the new legislation on firearms being considered that is incredibly draconian; and with the county I am moving to being very strict on who can get a CCW permit, I am not sure this is possible.

So my question is, barring being able to get the CCW permit, what is my best course of self defense? The area I am going to be attending evening classes is known to be quite dangerous. The campus has also have not implemented adequate security measures.
