Quanta User ID: 49956376 Australia 11/17/2013 03:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I plan to retire next Spring. I have no intention of staying in the US. I have spent the last 9 months or so considering which county to move to. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47928685 Health care, long term VISA, language, weather, crime, cost of living, transportation... so many things to consider. Currently my at number one on my list is Malaysia. Excellent health care that is cheap. English widely spoken. Malaysia My Second Home VISA. Panama and Belize are backup plans. But I would prefer the more exotic Asia. And Malaysia would place it at my doorstep. Mexico was never high on the list. Ecuador, Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic were higher. My wife wants Europe. So have looked at Italy, Spain and some Greek islands. Get International Health Insurance. Do not buy property, always rent. From what I understand if you live outside the US for 330 days a year and possess a residency VISA you do not owe federal taxes, but still have to file. The plan is to travel around until I find the right place. In the military I spent 13 months in Korea and loved it. I have also traveled to Germany and France. I have 5 springs to go but I'm looking already. Vietnam is the cheapest place on the Planet to live right about now. How does 300 a month for house food and 'help' sound? |

You have until mid 2015 when the BRICS have their own Bank of exchange set up and their own IMF to lend to the world. By then, China will also have the number one gold reserves in the world and be ready to help the world pick up the pieces of the implosion of the Dollar, USA and the WEST/ |

Quoting: wisc_natureboy Bank deposit and ongoing income just to name a couple. quit a few people just do the border run and get renewed every six months. There are probably more than a few who are there illegally. Exactly.. And the bank deposit is low as shit. You have to have like $1,500 usd and proof of income, big fucking deal. I don't want citizenship anyways. It's not necessary. I like to travel and I'm happy to leave every 3 to 6 months to visit another place. It can be done easily with all the money saved by living in Mexico in the first place.. I'll be taking a side trip to Cuba too, that should be interesting. |

It seems to be the safest region to ride out the coming western economic collapse. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48592067 I know a few people who are in Asia, namely Thailand which is super inexpensive. That culture is not really for me though - how do you like it there? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 45134377 Canada 11/17/2013 07:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sounds good! I'm going to Playa Del Carmen, about 45 minutes south of Cancun.. It's a bit less americanized there. Look into it, you'll be happy. Yes...that was my plan too... Cancun might be too chaotic is my feeling... I might explore the whole yucatan and then make my way to belize... I am very curious about this area and really need to explore it thoroughly. Any tips for me? |

And they allow gun ownership. I've been there. It's nice and cheap, and the scenery is among the best in the world (both kinds.) I will be spending more time there. I've heard, like most places, it's more real when you get away from the tourist areas. Stay away from the land borders though, as there is some unrest there, and the cops there are rather twitchy. |

Cancun is where the drunk and rowdy college students like to hang out. It's all commercial. Isla Mujeres is a little more laid back, when the day trippers are not there, that is. Playa seems to have a more Euro feel; the beaches certainly attests to that. Watch out for crime though, I got my camera stolen on the ferry to Cozumel in the checked baggage locker. Make sure to try out Merida in the Yucatan if you want to get away from the crowds on the coast. There's a nice expat community there, and it's an old sleepy colonial town in the jungle. If you like exploring ancient Mayan ruins, or cenote diving, this place makes a good base from which to do your excursions. I've never been to Belize, but I've heard they view tourists and travellers as marks. But they do that in Cancun too. Stay out of Belize City if you can, it's crime-ridden. Good journeys! |

If you are able to live in a community and function with other people you will be better off. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 49403972 And they have disbanded their military forces and are instead putting the money for that to better use, so that in itself is a good reason to move there. |
