I lived East of Cleveland during that storm, the drifts were over the tops of telephone poles, any street that was North/South was buried under snow.
It was surreal all you could see was the chimneys of the houses.
You could not go outside at it's peak, I tried and got knocked down several times by gusts of wind that measured at 90 mph Good luck to those in the path.

8 AM Severe Weather Update; Storms Firing

As we’re starting to get towards the beginning of the event, the severe weather outlooks are less important than looking out the window and keeping an eye on current conditions. Never the less, here is the latest outlook from about an hour ago. The risk of severe weather did get pulled west about 75 miles and things may be running about one to two hours slower then we thought earlier this morning. It’s going to be a busy day.

Re: 989 mb Explosively Developing Low over Chicago early Wed!!! TWO DEATHS CONFIRMED!!!! Compared with cleveland superbomb
The "Cleveland Superbomb" blasted portions of the Midwest with severe blizzard conditions, particularly in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. The term "Superbomb" refers to the extremely low pressure (958 mb) this storm had as it passed near Cleveland, Ohio. A pressure this low is more typically seen in a hurricane.

Blog: Mike Bettes remembers the storm

Highways were clogged with stranded motorists and doctors and emergency personnel were forced to use skis and snowmobiles. The Indiana governor sent tanks onto I-65 to remove stranded trucks. In Ohio, the National Guard was called in to assist with the worst travel disruption ever seen in the state.

"Superbomb" Facts:

Snow totals of 1 to 3 feet were common throughout the region.

Wind gusts approached an amazing 100 mph in Ohio, which caused drifts to pile as high as 25 feet.

The enormous drifts buried cars and even houses while making railways and roadways impassable.

In Ohio, I-75 was shutdown for 3 days and a portion of I-475 near Toledo was closed for 6 days. The entire Ohio turnpike was closed for the first time in history. National Guard helicopters flew 2,700 missions across the state to rescue stranded motorists.

Widespread wind damage was reported across Ohio. Thousands of trees and miles of utility lines were blown down.

Around 100,000 vehicles were abandoned in Michigan alone, mostly in the southeast part of the state.

In Indianapolis, Ind., visibilities remained below 1/4 mile for 25 hours!

The combination of strong winds and a bitter cold air mass sent wind chills to near -50 degrees. Continued cold and strong winds after the snowfall ended hampered recovery operations.

Around 70 deaths are related to the blizzard.

From NWS Norman...

... Record warmest low and high temperatures broken at Wichita
Falls...

The record warmest low temperature for January 28 at Wichita Falls
was 56 degrees... which was set back in 1968. Yesterday at Sheppard
Air Force base... the low temperature was 58 degrees... which had
broken the record for the warmest low temperature for that date.

The record warmest warmest high temperature for January 28 at
Wichita Falls was 80 degrees... which was set back in 1970.
Yesterday at Sheppard Air Force base... the high temperature was 81
degrees... which had broken the record for the warmest high
temperature for that date.

Temperature records for Wichita Falls date back to 1923.

wow, I remember the 2978 one, we, were in a Van Camper with a Boat and Trailer! - left on a Friday I think, from Rockford IL, drove into Chicago to catch hey 55 or 57 south. we could not, was closed, awoke sat to a foot of snow - I remember being trapped in Dwite IL for a few hours until my father "escaped" on a back road - we were blasting through 43 foot drifts acorss the road, on hwy 55 the drifts were easy 30 to 40 feet high - insane and will never forget it.

and now you say it was a super something - haha YES - when we came home, we could not even drive down our street left alone get into the driveway - 1 day of snow removal and we finally got into our house to find furnace pilot had died and house was freezing (electric was spotty too)

all that after 2 weeks in the Fla Keys - haha wow.
It's almost here....

well, i just looked at the radar: and the warm water-ladened
air is coming in from the Pacific over Baja, then over the
Texas panhandle towards Chicago, meeting the cold air from
the northwest... this definitely could be a significant
situation that might get our attention.

April in January: spring-like severe weather and record warmth in the Midwest

Posted by: Dr. Jeff Masters, 03:19 PM GMT em 29 de Janeiro de 2013

The calendar says its January, but the atmosphere looks more like April over the Midwest U.S., where a spring-like surge of warm air is interacting with a strong low pressure system to create a dangerous severe weather situation. The warm air surging northwards has already broken high temperature records for the date in Chicago, where the mercury hit 61°F at 7 am CST; a tornado watch is posted for portions of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas. Golf-ball sized hail fell at three locations in Oklahoma already this morning, and a wind gust of 75 mph was reported in a thunderstorm near Omega, Oklahoma. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, and Texas in their "Moderate Risk" region for severe weather on Tuesday. This is the first "Moderate Risk" forecast issued during 2013. The primary threat will be damaging thunderstorm winds, but we will also see tornadoes, with the potential for a few strong EF-2 and EF-3 twisters. The surge of warm moving northwards ahead of the cold front spawning today's severe weather is bringing in warmth unprecedented for January in some locations. Monday was the hottest January day on record in Topeka, Kansas, which hit 77°F. That's 36°F above average. and 3° warmer than their previous highest January temperature. Columbia, Missouri tied its all-time warmest January temperature, 77°. Kansas City (74°F) and Wichita (74°F) both fell 1° short of tying their all-time January hottest temperature records. Balloon soundings of the atmosphere taken last night showed moisture levels in the top 5% for a January day over much of the Midwest, and several stations may set all-time rainiest January day records today. One candidate is Flint Michigan, where a heavy thunderstorm moved in at 7:30 am, dumping 0.75" of rain. With another round of thunderstorms expected tonight, Flint is poised to break its record for rainiest January day in its history--the 1.34" that fell on January 18, 1949.

Figure 1. A crazy weather day for the U.S.: our severe weather map from 10 am EST Tuesday, January 29. Severe thunderstorms were occurring in Kansas and Oklahoma, flood watches were posted for Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin, and winter weather advisories, high wind advisories, and fire weather advisories were posted in other locations.

Figure 2. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi in their "Moderate Risk" region for severe weather on Tuesday. This is the first "Moderate Risk" forecast issued during 2013.

Chicago's wild January weather ride continues
Chicago's craziest January in memory got even stranger today, when a surge of warm air pushed the temperature to 61°F at 7 am, breaking the previous high temperature record of 59°F for the date. Spring-like thunderstorms, accompanied by temperatures in the mid-60s are expected this afternoon--just a week after the city recorded a high temperature of 11°F and a low of -1°F (on January 22nd.) Chicago has been above 65°F in January just once in its history--on January 25, 1950, when the mercury hit 67°F. The average January high in the Windy City is 30°F, and today will be the 4th day the city has been 20 or more degrees warmer than that during January 2013. The roller coaster goes back downhill after the cold front moves through early on Wednesday, though--Chicago's high on Friday is expected to be near 15°F, with a morning low around 5°F. Chicago has also experienced record low snowfall this winter; the city got it's first 1-inch snowstorm of the season on Friday, when 1.1" fell at O'Hare Airport. This was the latest first 1-inch snow in city history, and ended a 335-day streak without a 1-inch snowstorm, the longest such streak since records began in 1872. Chicago has managed just 2.9" of snow during the winter of 2012 - 2013, which is 16" below average.

Chicago's roller coaster of temperatures doesn't compare, though, to what happened in Nowata, Oklahoma during the period February 10 - 17, 2011. A cold air mass combined with a fresh snow pack and calm winds allowed Nowata to hit a low of -31°F on February 10, 2011--the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Oklahoma. Gradual warming accelerated over the next week, and temperatures peaked at a record high of 79 degrees on February 17. According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, Okla., this 110-degree temperature rise was the greatest change within seven days in Oklahoma history.

alright the screen shots I can get are useless lol

the great derecho storm started out as a thunderstrom cell and it had a lot of energy to feed on...

But this one has a lot more... pulling moisture and energy from the pacific ocean...

yes tomorrow it will be over Kentucky... and at the same time over the pacific too...

it ill also be pulling cold down from Canada...

Nothing about this storm makes me happy...

Its not even raining here yet... and i want to run to the shelter... im hope this storm doesnt go the extra mile... but its liable to turn very tornadic

BUT my local weather dude who is pretty awesome and actually loves getting on TV to scream at us to run run run run when there is an actual threat just said this on facebook about the storm for my location in Kentucky.... US... this is for Kentucky... not ur state

OK...everybody take a breath...first off today is going to be a GREAT day...it's going to be warm and windy...enjoy this January treat. Second...yes there is a possibility of strong/severe storms late tonight and Wednesday morning. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat and it does look like a squall line situation where multiple counties could be warned at once...it covers a big area. There is no reason to panic...no reason to alter your day's plans (or even your evening ones). We'll be tracking the storms through the night and if situations warrant advise the folks in the greatest danger on how to protect themselves...but only if needed. The vast majority of folks will just have gusty thunderstorms to contend with. The only thing you need to worry about right now is just take a second to think where your safe spot is...just in case. Do it now while the weather is calm. We'll update more later, but until then, enjoy the warmth."
