dhs buying 7000 "personal defense" weapons
[link to www.theblaze.com]

They call them assault weapons when the peasants have them. and of course the dhs weapons have automatic fire capability.

The Department of Homeland Security is seeking to acquire 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons” (PDW) — also known as “assault weapons” when owned by civilians. The solicitation, originally posted on June 7, 2012, comes to light as the Obama administration is calling for a ban on semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines.

Citing a General Service Administration (GSA) request for proposal (RFP), Steve McGough of RadioViceOnline.com reports that DHS is asking for the 7,000 “select-fire” firearms because they are “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.” The term select-fire means the weapon can be both semi-automatic and automatic. Civilians are prohibited from obtaining these kinds of weapons.

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

I'd like to go quietly in my sleep, like grandpa did. Not screaming in terror like the people in the back seat of the car he was driving.

A personal defense weapon (PDW) is a compact semi-automatic or fully automatic firearm similar in most respects to a submachine gun, but firing a (often proprietary) rifle round, giving a PDW better range, accuracy and armor-penetrating capability than submachine guns, which fire pistol-caliber cartridges. The class of weapon as it exists today evolved as a hybrid between a submachine gun and a carbine, retaining the compact size and ammunition capacity of the former while adding the ammunition power, accuracy and penetration of the latter.

how many times has ANYONE heard of DHS firing one round? even one ? ...

so...if DHS hasn't EVER fired a weapon, historically...uh..well...

now they have purchased a billion or so bullets ...most hollow points (not target rounds).

now 7000 FULLY AUTOMATIC MILITARY RIFLES.

uh. ok..this isn't a mystery and it isn't a creation from paranoid delusions.

Last summer I shot next to a DHS agent at an outdoor range. He just bought a new AK-47. He told me they can use their personal weapons while on duty. He had the thing all tricked out including a scope, vented hand guard and bipod. 22's won't cut it against that thing.

So it's an 'assault rifle' when a private citizen owns it, but it's a 'personal defense weapon' when a government goon holds it.

Also, 5.56x45 is not a submachine gun cartridge.
