Is gambling a sin?
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
-1 Tim 6:10

But does this mean gambling is inherently wrong, or is it the greed and lust for power/winning that overcomes our mind, thus creating sin..but is gambling in itself sinful?

I've struggled with that question myself. As much as I love to play blackjack, I can't bring myself to go to the casino because I believe it is sin.

Every type of gambling is sinful, except the nickle slot machines. Nickle slot machines are exempt from being sinful. So... knock yourself out!

my heart tells me that it isn't worth losing a relationship.. especially a cosmic one.. over petty money games.. because my mind succumbs to greed.

but can i not master this?

or is that prideful and takes me away from the bigger picture?

do i not need money to survive?

but then again, who provides me with that money?

all valid questions ^^

I never gamble believing I will win. Usually I manage to break even, win a little, or lose a little and play a game for entertainment. Just playing is my objective.

I usually give my winnings away too...I asked the pizza delivery guy the other day if he goes to the local casino...he said yeah, he likes to take his girlfriend when he can afford it...so I gave him some color as a tip, two reds is $50 :)

Re: Is gambling a sin?
I love playing the games. Im a christian. And, I could never really understand how playing these games translated to sin. I have won many times. And, everytime it was a blessing from God.

In the old testament, did they not 'cast lots'?
This is a form of gambling/chance.
And, yet they did it still.

If someone could definitively answer whether or not this is wrong or not, it would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much the only gambling I do is poker. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. I've won a few big pots where the loser was quite choked and obviously could not aford to lose. I know they should not play if they can't afford to lose but ... I struggle with feeling bad over that.

It's stupid if you do it to try to make extra money, because people who need extra money typically don't have the intellect to win consistently...playing the lottery is stupid, but with card games and even slot machines you have a mathematical advantage...
