I would think that when a barrel of oil reaches the price of $120 and the price of the lowest octane in the U.S reaches about $7 per gallon all over and in Canada it reaches $5 per litre then I think the collaps will happen.Either that or a revolt will take place.A revolt that is way past due GhostHunter Time Is An Event Wasted |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 82865 United States 04/18/2006 01:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The elderly aren't the real target here, although some would like to think so. Gas at $3/gal. cannot be sustained by most Americans. As it is, the cost of utilities has gone up and people working for minimum wage cannot afford the high cost of transportation and heating/cooling their homes, plus the inflation they see at the grocery stores. I recently read that people working for minimum wage cannot afford apartments! That means they are either moving back in with parents or living out of their vehicles. It is getting really, really bad for a good many people. How long will the disenfranchised stand for this before there is a revolt? What about those who lost their jobs and can't find a replacement? We could go on and on. Business will suffer because all the discretionary income will go only for absolute necessities. $3 is the max unless "they" want this country to go down. Of course, "they" have been prepared for this for a looooong time, so there will be little suffering among the elite in any event. . |

Not to mention companies that furnish health insurance want a reprieve. Diabetes is an epidemic now with so many young people being diagnosed with it, and the estimates of those who have not been as yet diagnosed runs in the millions! . |

Beach front condo's in W.Fla now being marked down significantly to unload them....flipping is basically over, and the housing bubble is done. The 4 year cycle i nthe stock market is due this Fall. Last time was 2002, there are only 6 months to the October massacre which will probably see the SPX at 583. Thats 700 points lower. The collapse is underway right now. |

It may take a few years for people to realize or it may hit this summer, war, debt, trade deficit, collapsing US$, housing bubble, unemployment, natural disasters, condensed or watered down? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 2312 United States 04/18/2006 02:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | what is the relationship between the price of a barrel of oil and the price we see at the gas pump? They said something on CNN last year about this but I can't remember... Is it the price of the barrel divided by 1/2 and move the decimal over 1? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1373 United States 04/18/2006 02:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "It's insane, there's no reason for it." Sure there is a reason. India and China and other developing contries are using a lot more oil. That drives up the price. A great deal of the world's oil supply comes from an unstable area of the world. That drives up the price as well. No need to resort to a conspriracy. As for how high it can go, what percentage of the operating budget for your car is gas? If you don't know the answer to that question, you have no business even trying to answer the original question. |
