Authorities in South Texas say nearly 50 immigrants who were smuggled into
the country fled from the back of a cargo truck this week as deputies approached.

The deputies with the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department were pursuing the
truck Tuesday evening along a dirt road near Alice. Dashboard video shows the
truck stopping abruptly, the rear door opening and a wave of people fleeing.

KIII-TV in Corpus Christi reports 31 were apprehended and another 15 fled through
fields. The driver of the truck, believed to be the smuggler, got away.
