Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43485535 There is no upside of "this Law". Maybe there is an upside. Under the law, doesn't this make Obama a terrorist? Wouldn't he then be just as likely to be arrested for the very law he wishes to envoke. Obama wants to give arms and money for people that are fighting an existing government. Under the law, fighting or resisting the lagetimate government, or supplying said resistance with aid, would result in a charge of aiding terrorism. So, under the law, Obama is guilty of violating his own law, and therefore should be arrested and permanently detained. Good point. I like that interpretation. |

I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. Thomas Jefferson |

Congress granted the president the authority to arrest and hold individuals accused of terrorism without due process under the NDAA, but Mr. Obama said in an accompanying signing statement that he will not abuse these privileges to keep American citizens imprisoned indefinitely. These assurances, however, were not enough to keep a group of journalists and human rights activists from filing a federal lawsuit last year, which contested the constitutionality of Section 1021, the particular provision that provides for such broad power. A federal judge sided with the plaintiffs originally by granting an injunction against Section 1021, prompting the Obama administration to request an appeal last year. On Wednesday this week, an appeals court in New York ruled in favor of the government and once again allowed the White House to legally indefinitely detain persons that fit in the category of enemy combatants or merely provide them with support. Looks like this needs to make its way up to the Supreme Court. |

The reich wing are the biggest traitors the nation has ever seen. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 36119557 Dear typical idiot, Perhaps you don't know that the grotesquely misnamed Patriot Act was actually written by the Klinton administration. Biden had a role as author if memory serves. The Klinton administration couldn't pass it. Because, you know , there were those small issues of unconstitutionality and annoying freedoms. The gubmint needed something like 9/11 to happen in order to get it passed. Surprisingly 9/11 happened and the bill (already written) was passed. Without of course being read.
