It's using an outdated mask and subtracting an element of the field that is no longer there. It should fix itself the next time a new mask is made (1-2 days). This allows data to get automatically uploaded to the net faster but in lower quality. The beacon images are replaced by properly processed science quality images after a day or two and will not be using a default sub-mask but properly calibrated one." |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 46476193 United States 09/07/2013 06:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | if this is a UFO, then it is locked in sync with the camera that's recording it. Since a planet can be seen moving, yet this "object" doesn't move at all. I can't imagine a UFO being so concerned with a satelite camera, that it makes sure to remain in the same relative position for so long or is it a brown dwarf of the infra red variety? it looks somewhat similar to that spherical object that was connected to the Sun last year, some inferred it was "refueling" at the time if I recall correctly it was rather large as well I believe |

For the stereo spacecraft the situation is more complex; it's more like a running average, so it takes longer to work itself out when something changes with the particles on the lens. |

Aye-aye User ID: 21993314 Bulgaria 09/08/2013 08:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: Dr. Astro They use images from a previous day to calibrate current images, as a sort of pseudo-dark frame in order to eliminate the sun's glare and allow the heliosphere to be seen. If there is a planet in the previous image that they use, it will create a "ghost" of a dark spot in future images from where the planet was. In this case, it's Mercury, from the first half of the day on August 21st. Those frames formed the "pseudo-dark" that caused the ghost you're calling "the dark planet."
