I have yet to see one that can stand up to 4+ hours of video encoding. My last test was on a Mobile Pentium D laptop...not really a test, more like helping a friend. They cant take the heat, and need to stay out of my kitchen. |

I expected great increase in overall speed when I replaced my old Dell laptop with a new Samsung top-of-range model but discovered that the hard drive cannot keep up with the rest of the system, creating a bottleneck in data transmission. I could be wrong but that looks like the most plausible reason. I'm smarter than a rock |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 182575 United States 01/25/2007 06:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | dual core is faster. for drives my solution was to use the internal drive(s) for operating system and program functions and the connected usb external drives for data. In theory I am getting data in and out at 200mps(usb 2.0). Another trick I do for my video editing is to have one of the externals handle audio and one for video...but that may even be limited by the bottlenck of the USB architecture. I am going to reconfirgure my external drives for RAID 0 and see if data speeds up |

I think your point is important - what's the point in a fast laptop computer if you don't enough juice to run the harddrive? |

A solid-state ram drive contains no real moving parts such as a disk platter spinning or waiting to spin. I can vision this being a great leap in technology when we can get terabye of info on a chip the size of a CPU then its on for real! |
