Quoting: nobody 149517Why? I didn't like the Media Center on my bf's computer. It wouldn't read AVI files from his digital vid camera. We had lots of problems with it. When he uploaded new camera software, it caused a conflict with QuickTime, which now freezes his computer when it opens. He's had to disable QT. nobody User ID: 149517 United States 12/26/2007 03:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The problem with downgrading an OS is that sometimes hardware is developed with a new OS in mind and there might not be drivers for all of your hardware. Probably won't be an issue but something to consider. I installed Linux on a laptop with Vista with no problems so you should be OK. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 250177 United States 12/26/2007 03:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | goto a computer tech center and have them work out the problem for you. Stop being cheap and put out some dough. I am getting ready to go out and buy a new laptop. I just helped my boyfriend with his new laptop and do not like VISTA. I'm assuming any laptop I get will have it already installed. What are the hazards of taking VISTA off and putting XP on a new laptop? Is it going to cause a lot of conflicts with the new laptop? 2XSecretAgent (OP) User ID: 325248 United States 12/26/2007 03:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Vista's sweet spot is 4 gigs of RAM. Quoting: The Monk 274840Don't get a laptop if you can help it, they suck. they get too hot and glitchy. Well I am going back and forth between a laptop and desktop. I know I can get more for my money in a desktop. But I like having the ability to take my laptop anywhere I want to go. My current laptop has been used so much the keyboard is falling apart. I wish I could put a new keyboard on my laptop and use it to take with me, and get a new desktop for home use. Is it possible to put a new keyboard on the laptop? I doubt I will find any in the stores. Quoting: 2XSecretAgentMy sister bought a laptop for my dad and didn't want a Vista system because of all the work she'd have to do to make it usable for a novice. She wound up looking around and found some Dells for a cheaper price because they were loaded with XP and not upgradeable to Vista. The laptop is a Dell Vostro 1000 and she got it for the ridiculously low price of $500.00. You can find a laptop from Dell with XP on it! |

Quoting: 2XSecretAgentYea, probably.. a quick fix might be a keyboard that you can plug into USB. It might be a hassle dragging it around with your laptop, but at least you can then take the time on deciding what you really want to do. |

It's good for students and office workers but not so good for multimedia content creation. Don't be afraid to try linux. [link to www.pcpro.co.uk] |
