The two witnesses are probably refering to the two witnesses found in the Bible.
I am pretty sure it is in Revelations and they come right before the end of days or something like that. I think they are beheaded and then they rise again. (I think that is a symbolic or allegorical idea). Anyway, I imagine that is what the two witnesses probably represents.
