Has anyone ever tried throat singing, khoomei, overtone singing?
Has anyone ever tried throat singing, khoomei, overtone singing?

I learned how to do a couple of ways on the internet a few years ago and was curious if any of you other kooks have ever tried to figure it out.

I can't do some of the techniques yet, but it is certainly the strangest thing I have ever heard a human do and I think it is fascinating.

I do not think it is "magic" or will "free your mind" or anything. I just think it is interesting.

There are different styles here are two:

i dunno about throat singing but i growl in my epic metal band, which utilizes the 2nd pair of vocal cords, same as with overtone singing.

most people don't realize there is a technique and most don't even realize we have a 2nd pair of vocal cords that we don't use often.

Not exactly throat singing but years ago I used simaler methods to modulate on CB radio where you kinda growled out words at low volume up close to an Astatic D-104 mic which produced a very powerful low frequency audio on the receiving end that really cut through all the interference from competing stations. It was a very popular at that time for those who new how to do it.

i just found this out. i started throat singing yesterday and can do like 2 definite sounds with this technique easily. the rest will come to me.

but yea, i used to use this technique when screaming as well and didnt even realize it.

this guy uses it a lot. you can hear the emphasis on some of the words he pronounces to make the throat singing. hes pretty fluent when he does do it.
