Humanity.. so needs for someone clever clogs to come up with super-conductors at room & high temperature.. it would change everything in the way we live. All this time, scientists have been trying to suss out how to get existing conducting materials to operate as superconductors. Well.. the opposite is true. Superconductors at room/high temps will be born out of modified insulators made of light-weight material instead. It's possible to turn an insulator into a high temp superconductor by changing its properties, but how to make the superconductor 'flexible' is the problem right now. It turns out this has already been done using lime as a raw material, an insulator, then exposing it to UV light to convert it into a superconductor, though the lime turns green in colour. The most 'promising' superconductor is to turn an insulator into semi & full superconductors using high freqency phase switching techniques.. but all this is just in the ideas stage. It's obvious, existing conductors are too heavy/mass & heat hungry to work as full superconductors, so converting inulators is the key here.

Wormholes connect two otherwise unrelated regions to form what is called a multiply connected space.

They present paths much quicker to travel than the paths presented by ordinary space. For example, travel from Point A to Point B in the image is greatly facilitated by the presence of the wormhole.

Wormholes may be possible on microscopic distances as a result of the quantum foam which allows particle/antiparticle pairs to leap into existence momentarily, then subsequently disappear.

Interestingly, wormholes allow travel between different times as well as different locations, so time travel may be theoretically possible.

Wormholes are commonly postulated to exist at the centers of black holes or between parallel universes with no other connections. The image below is a representation of a wormhole connecting two parallel universes.

In 1963, Roy Kerr devised the famous Kerr solution to Einstein's equations, a more realistic description of black holes than the original Schwarzschild solution. Kerr assumed the star that would form the black hole to be rotating and found that it would not eventually collapse to a point, but rather to a ring. When approaching the ride from the side, gravity and spacetime curvature are both still infinite, so matter is again inevitably destroyed. However, traveling through the ring would result in large but finite gravity. An object that does so and avoids being crushed by the still-formidable gravity can enter the Einstein-Rosen bridge and gain access to the mirror universe.

In 1985, cosmologist Kip Thorne was asked by science popularizer Carl Sagan to devise a hypothetical traversible wormhole. Thorne and his collaborators then created what was a remarkably simple solution that would in theory connect two periods in time. The wormhole would not rip its occupants apart, would stay open for the duration of a trip through, would not freeze its occupants inside, and would not create time paradoxes. However, it would require a never-observed form of exotic matter whose total energy is negative.

Based on this solution, Thorne later made the first scientifically sound - though not technically feasible - proposal for the design of a machine for time travel. In one version of his time machine, a chamber containing two parallel metal plates is placed on a rocket ship and accelerated to near-light velocities.

An identical chamber, with the time traveler inside, is placed on earth. The electrical field created by the plates (the Casimir effect) creates a tear in spacetime.

Since the clocks in the two chambers are ticking at different rates due to relativistic effects, the traveler is hurtled into the past or the future.

Another possible time machine involves a cylinder made of the abovementioned exotic matter. A time traveler stands inside the cylinder as the matter forms a wormhole, then rides comfortably to a distant place and time.

The mathematical reasoning of these devices is quite sound; the difficulty is in locating and exploiting exotic matter (if it even exists).

The key is a condition called averaged weak energy condition (AWEC), which must be violated for the wormhole to work.

Additionally, Stephen Hawking has declared that the wormhole entrance will emit enough radiation to make it unstable or even close it permanently.

Complications with Travel through a Kerr Ring

Physicists calculating the logistics of this form of travel find that a traveler may not survive travel through this medium. A light beam which followed an individual would acquire so much energy in the length of the ERB that it would kill the person and create such a high gravitational field that it would close the bridge.
How to Keep an ERB Open

John Wheeler, in 1962, (who first used the term "wormhole") found that an ERB is unstable in space, and if it opened, it would close again instantly, before a photon could travel through it.

An ERB would need a supply of negative energy in order to stay open, through a process such as the Casimir effect, which generates negative energy. Unfortunately, the Casimir effect only generates very small amounts of negative energy.

Physicists speculate that if large amounts of negative energy could be discovered, perhaps by an advanced society, then the creation of an ERB may be possible.

What is the Einstein-Rosen bridge??

The Einstein-Rosen bridge is a geometrical property of a black hole that manifests itself in that on the other side of the black hole another set of dimensions has been attached to the one from our universe.

This makes passage through this bridge and hence into another universe a mathematical possibility.

Actually the geometrical property exists in all black holes; it is called an Einstein-Rosen bridge only for static or Schwarzschild holes though.

There are three basic properties of a black hole: its mass, its spin, and its charge. Once these three are known, the black hole is completely specified.

This is in immense contrast to the sun for example, for which one would have to specify huge amounts of data to completely describe her. A static black hole, that is one of no spin and no charge, is called a Schwarzschild hole.

A black hole whose spin and/or whose charge is non-zero is a Reissner-Nordström hole, which is our object of curiosity. We shall not consider a hole of both charge and spin as this gives the situation an extra twist of difficulty.

The mathematics of the hole of non-zero spin to that of non-zero charge is very similar (the a2, representing the angular momentum per mass, terms would replaced by Q2, representing the charge). However there are important differences.

First of all the immense electric field around a charged hole is so great that the individual atoms arriving at it would be ripped apart long before they would reach the hole, whereas this is not the case for a rotating black hole. Both have a gravitational field of equal magnitude which is powerful, but not in all cases powerful enough to annihilate ordinary matter at a distance.

Another difference is that with the charged hole, one can safely assume a point singularity, that is one can assume that all the matter of the hole is contained in a geometric point and that space-time has completely bent around this point, whereas with a rotating black hole one gets ring singularity, hence a spinning disk.

Since the nature of the electric field around a charged hole leaves all contemplations of inter-universal travel no fertile ground, we shall only consider a rotating black hole.

Well next month is the scheduled restart of the LHC @ 3.5 TeV per beam. 50% of maximum. Not much is being revealed except for the computing grid preparations.
We'll have to wait and see what phenomena they produce this time.

Update from CERN's bulletin 01/25/10

Before the 2009 running period began, all the necessary preparations to run the LHC at the collision energy of 1.18 TeV per beam had been carried out. The goal of the technical stop, which will end mid-February, is to prepare the machine for running at 3.5 TeV per beam. In order to achieve that, a current as high as 6 kAmps will have to flow into the LHC magnets.

The main work is taking place on the new quench protection system (nQPS) where teams are improving the electrical reliability of the connection between the Instrumentation Feedthrough Systems (IFS) on the magnets and the nQPS equipment. There are around 500 of these connectors for each of the eight sectors in the LHC that need to be repaired. These operations are necessary to ensure that higher currents can be safely handled.

The interventions on the nQPS follow a very strict procedure that ensures an extremely accurate quality control of the repairs: after repairing the electrical connections, specialized teams make a first visual control to check that everything is properly assembled; after that, the Electrical Quality Assurance (ELQA) team performs the high voltage tests; finally, the Hardware Commissioning teams power the magnets, initially with low current and finally at 6 kAmps.

Several teams are taking advantage of the technical stop to carry on other technical verifications and efficiency tests, for instance on some vacuum pumping units, the kicker system, the Oxygen Deficiency Hazard detectors, some ventilation components and a few others.

At present, all teams are on schedule: the powering tests have just started in Sectors 8-1 and 1-2; Sectors 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 will follow shortly. According to the planning Sector 1-2 will be the first sector ready for beam operation by the end of January.

At the same time as the LHC interventions, repairs are going on at CMS on the water cooling system. All work, both in the LHC and in the CMS experiment, is expected to be completed by mid-February.

I am familiar with the Catholics, and the Mary visions--or Conchita, Mali,etc-the apparitions of the 'virgin mary' is relative to catholics as it pertains to their beliefs-the "queen of heaven, the "mother" of god and so on) I avoid idolatry and things that can readily fall prey to trickery-worshipping an apparition or an idol...or one fallen-

I am not very comfortable with so many and their 'visions'-or apparitions-or 'messages' as I have found far too many are easily mislead and my source is solid for me in my life why seek another???

A Quench is not a joke-people can die rapidly...and dealing with this LHC of this size is even more serious...or failure in the coolants is a major problem and keeps happening...

At 0927 GMT Friday morning, a fault known as a "quench" resulted in the leakage of a tonne of helium coolant causing 100 of the LHC superconducting magnets to heat up 100°C. The fire services had to be called and it was some time before engineers could access the tunnels to assess the damage. It was worse than they were expecting. Although no one was hurt and there was no danger to the public, the once-supercooled magnets were one hundred times warmer than they should be and optimal vacuum conditions had been lost. To perform repairs, the rest of the damaged sector will need to be warmed up and then slowly cooled down again, resulting in a shutdown of LHC operations for at least two months…"

Let's recall that on Tuesday evening, December 8th, CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC), located in Switzerland, “smashed together subatomic particles at the highest energies ever reached by a human-made accelerator which were then ‘quantumly transferred to the massive Partial Reflection Medium-Frequency (MF) Atmospheric Radar Facility located in Ramfjordmoen, Norway, operated by European Incoherent Scatter Facility (EISCAT) radar and ionospheric heating scientists who, in turn, work under the supervision of the American High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) that many call one the largest ‘weapons of mass destruction’ ever constructed.



We know by logistics of electricity consumption that increased DRAMATICALLY that same hour that the spiral was in the sky….
