Cimbrian User ID: 526016 Turkey 10/14/2008 12:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For the past month or so I have been hearing a very low level humming sound. No one else hears it and I'm starting to wonder WTF is going on. I hear it mostly at night and early morning, because I'm guessing it's the quiet time of the day (night). Quoting: bugging out 433091This humming is not constant, it sounds like an electric motor trying to cycle. I've turned off all the curcuits in the house so I know it's not from within the house. I can even hear it when I'm out in the woods or at the neighbors house. It's really starting to bug me out! And no it's not tinnitus. Welcome to the club of "Hum-hearing Abled People" mate :-) I've been hearing it for the last4 years now, sometimes so powerful my head sort of vibrates and feels like it could explode any moment. Thanks god it hasn't... yet :-) Sometimes in for short periods of a few days I don't hear it, but usually it's there. The last 2 weeks it's been particularly powerful, night and day, and it can even disturb me when I'm watching tv. The sound can be heard all over the world, and there is no clear explanation about what it is. Nobody really knows. Here are a couple of links that may help you to gain some understanding, and a couple of explanations about what it could be. I thought it was traffic, but it was even louder when I went for a backpack trip in a wilderness area in September. Every night, wherever I am I hear it. Its exactly like you said. In fact, right now at 3 in the morning it is the loudest it has been for awhile--no on and off like it usually does, just constant. It was like this in the wilderness--I thought it would be quiet there, but,no, the hum was louder. Its not my refrigerator or anything else. Ear plugs don't stop it at all. It is starting to bug me. When my boyfriend is over, he can't hear it. I am embarrassed to talk to anyone about it. I'm glad to see that you are hearing it. I am in southern Oregon in a rural area, but I heard it in northern California, too. |

I think Time Warner is the cable co. around here... I don't remember because I don't watch TV and don't have cable. Water always wins. :sun: |

Noticed it after I moved here. I have found myself outside in the middle of the night in -20 temps and 2 feet of snow trying to figure it out cause it was driving me nuts. My wife hears it now and so does my brother but most people don't know what I am talking about. Quoting: rickg 557176One just can't pinpoint it , it's all around. And annoying as hell. On a spontaneous hunch I decided to search the web for some answers, since I haven't done that in a long while; and go figure. Just when I thought it was a natural thing with some people (doesn't mean your crazy), there are actually some real answers here. Thank you guys for your input, well, some of you. I have learned to live with it. I live in the lower southeast, all my life, very intelligent according to my friends, and certainly not an impressionable child at 51. We live in a society that still look upon the pyramids with awe, as we pear into the edge of quantum physics (What the bleep do we know; and Down the rabbit hole). Now we are discussing "the constant hum", from poster all over the world. What will we be doing in 10 years? |

It sounds like a low hum & goes on for about 3 to 4 seconds then cuts out. Sometimes it will go on for longer. Ive also noticed that no matter where ive moved to in my hometown in eastern NJ I still hear it. Ive even turned to a friend once when I was living at his house & asked if he heard anything & he said no. I live with my gf right now & dont hear it as much as I did over the past summer & fall but every now & again it will pop back up. Definetly sounds like a low hum like something is trying to start itself. I heard somewhere it has to do with ufos, same with ringing in our ears. |
