Reality is BS User ID: 710140 United States 07/24/2009 01:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You are right. It's very easy to talk about what you will do in the abstract but unless you're willing to give it all up including your life, you will meekly give them up and pray that nobody hurts you. I think the percentage of people who disobey and resist is very very low. |

Can't come take something that doesn't exist, from someone who isn't even there. Dying to imprison the country, aren't ya. The people that come here, come here to learn. Not to be rambo. Ask those questions honestly to the ENTIRE American population, the honest results would SCARE you. Everyone knows where the line is, just not so many care to speak of it. |
Lost Fisherman User ID: 226145 United States 07/24/2009 01:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I admit Gates was asking for trouble by talking smack to the cop. However the cop had no right to arrest him. For those who think he did, then why were the charges dropped almost immediately? Quoting: Reece2076The cop most certainly did have the right to arrest Gates, on the charge of disturbing the peace, which is a catch-all charge to allow temporary detainment. Charges are often dropped quickly once the details of an incident are determined. Gates wouldn't identify himself, wouldn't co-operate with a law enforcement official who could not ascertain the nature of the disturbance because of Gates' belligerence, and the cops had a credible report of a B&E. And, the cops had no way of knowing if a perp was out of sight in the house waiting to pounce with a shotgun. The situation could have de-escalated rapidly if Gates would have simply produced his driver's license instead of trying to make a political statement. We live in an allegedly civil society. Gates should have behaved civilly. Obama shoulda kept his trap shut. "Uhhhhhh......" Barack Obama |

First they came When the Nazis came for the communists, I remained silent; I was not a communist. Then they locked up the social democrats, I remained silent; I was not a social democrat. Then they came for the trade unionists, I did not protest; I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, I did not speak out; I was not a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me. As Above, So Below Work Smarter, Not Harder |

When they come for them they will know you have them or you better have a very good explanation where they went. You don't think they've been working on the torture techniques for nothing do you. Are they gonna torture them into a 'confession' as well? Having a gun is meaningless if it's hidden underground or in a safe somewhere. It also won't do you much good when you can't get ammo for it. If you feel safer having a weapon that cannot ever be seen by the general public then have at it. |

Will you then just comply because the cop is just doing his job. Quoting: Reece2076The responses to many of the threads about the Gates incident has showed me that many of you will do what you're told because the cop is just doing his job. A lot of you believe a cop has the right to arrest you if you dare speak up about a perceived injustice. I admit Gates was asking for trouble by talking smack to the cop. However the cop had no right to arrest him. For those who think he did, then why were the charges dropped almost immediately? A lot of you talk a big game from your keyboards. But this incident just goes to show that when the time comes many of you will just comply. In fact I'll take it a step further and say many of you will probably help round the "troublemakers" up. Hey reece, you are one of the biggest 'talkers' on GLP. You are attempting, in this thread, to somehow prove that Gates had the nerve to do what GLP'rs wouldn't, thereby somehow making Gates the good guy and the Cops the bad guys. STFU REECE. |

However, continuing to yell at a police officer, who came to help when a breakin was reported, is the height of stupidity. "You ain't heard the last of me", "I'll speak to your mama outside", multiple Cambridge and Harvard cops becoming alarmed at the actions of Gates - sufficient justification to detain Gates in handcuffs temporarily to ensure that the issue doesn't escalate further. Gates is the one who made the stupid decision. "Uhhhhhh......" Barack Obama |
