thats the thing is it harming him? how can we tell now?

did your parents know what you were doing was harming you?

did it harm you?

if you look at it all positively (or mostly) it couldn't be to bad

but if you look at it negative of course itll be bad

some of you seem to be well off and happy just wanting to see the deeper meaning of it all

some cant handle it and may take there lives or abuse other things

.. i try to focus on the things we can controll somewhat.. if its in the past well i really have no control but can only learn from it and use it to assist my path to the future

i like to focus more on what i can control , meditating knowing your self, health, stop eating junck and stop eating GMOs, when your diet is awful you are easily controlled and its even easier to trigger your other alters , youll have mood swings.. healthy mind healthy body and focus on making this world a better place for others i can control that and wont dwell on what i lost control of

I hear what you're saying. My life is very full - with love and family and friends. Most of my adult life I've been in automatic achieve mode (but I think it was because of my sad childhood - I wanted something better for my kids than what I was given). I've been on my own since I was very young - always worked, went to school and paid rent. I know MGM gave me good skills and creative thinking.

And you're right - there are those that do look at things very negatively - but where will the help come from unless we try to understand this. I can't recommend going to a therapist or psychologist because that may do more harm. (whether nefariously or otherwise) At this point, who knows.

One thing I do know is that my sister and I both are going through this and in no way have I told my whole story here.

Sometimes the best way out of something is through it. I want to satisfy my curious mind, figure out as much as possible and go from there. I like a mystery and sealing my files presses every sleuth instinct in me! lol

I always find it interesting that whenever this thread actually makes some headway, someone who wasn't in the program comes along to derail it and reform it into their liking. Watched this happen over and over again now on this thread. This time, I'm just flat out pointing that it is happening again. I'm not alleging anything. On the contrary, I understand that the more posts hit this thread, the more likely that others who weren't in the program are going to see it and throw in their .02. But seriously, enough is enough. We've dug up a lot over the last few days and it's now effectively getting buried.

Hello: you were looking fopr me 7 days ago re: the MGM Curriculum project which wass codirected by myself and Mary Meeker and myself in 68-69. Meeker took her doctorate at USC where I was a professor of educational psychology. I am now 80 years old and have not kept up on these areas of expertise for 15 years or so. I worked with the project for 3 months and then had to leave to be a Fulbright Professor at the University of Singapore. Several outstanding specialists on the education of gifted children including Professor Maurice Freeehil of the University of Washington were part of this project. He had written an outstanding book on this topic which is probably available from Amazon used books or a University Library. John Gowan(deceased) also published books on this topic as well as Irving Sato who directed the National Leadershp on MGM for the US office of Education. I think he is retired and living in Pasadena. Irv was the Director of Educational Programs for MGM Mentally Gifted Minors for the Califorania Dept of Education in Sacramento. The current director may be able to guide you to where these curriculum guides can be found. Dr.Meeker is now deceased.Sorry, my typing skills are so feeble. JFM

Thank you for taking the time to chime in. A lot of us are confused about some things because we were kids in these kind of programs. Kids frequently frame experiences differently than an adult's perspective. Toss in a lot of sketchy memories and it can be unsettling when it may not have been intended to be so.

I would love to see some curriculum guides so I will see what I can find. Thank you for the tip.

My gut says yep. It makes sense considering we were mentioning names. This particular forum (the internet's insane asylum lol) gets a lot of hits. It would pop up high on a search engine since so many people probably don't search for those who were involved in the various gifted programs. We were technically just 1-2% of the population. I noted that when I was searching for more articles by Gowan that this thread began to pop up at the top of the search results.

He's down for it...just not right now. After a 4 hour sociology class and two hour bus commute, can't blame him. Now is hanging out, chatting with friends, lol.

Anything specific that I should look for outside of just basic (lol) gifted education in the time period? I think Eric might be down down but I will see if some of the articles are available through uni access.

Maybe search all the names that we've come up with, if you can. See if anything is available that we haven't seen?

I'm wondering if the curriculum guides will have anything about the psychic testing. I think I saw a guide somewhere online and it was pretty generic - basic outline/detail.

It will be interesting to see what it says!

This article brought up a whole list of names:

Lundy 1977

Moriarity 19665

Whittaker 1969

"Eminent Subjects" - Goertzels & Goertzels 1966

Leta Hollingworth

Paul Torrance

Lewis Terman

I'm not sure what we'll get from this - but it might be worth looking up.

Yeah, it will be but I think that would probably have to be framed in kind of the mood of the 70's. In 1972, apparently the US heard reports of paranormal/parapsychology experiments going on in the USSR. It was enough where they made this debriefing:

[link to www.dod.mil]

Eventually they formed the Stargate Project out of this. This would be the remote viewing project that my grandpa talked about. It ran from the 70's til 1995. Considering that these programs were looking for gifted creative individuals and Gowan's observations about creativity, we would've been the most likely candidates as having some possibly usable paranormal ability. They'd be looking anywhere if they thought the need or danger was great enough to prevent "falling behind" tech-wise. Kind of like the reason why they pushed for the programs to start in 1958 post-Sputnik. The programs' funding also wasn't typical classroom funding either and that could've provided a nudge from interested parties.

I did find this once: [link to www.academia.edu]

Making zener cards and testing each other was the activity plus the discussion of the results and thoughts on the matter. It's listed, I believe, under one of the Science activities and is from 1986. It also doesn't match up with some of the recollections. If kids were testing kids, it wouldn't have rubbed the tested child so wrong, you know? But that is the closest I've come to finding that particular subject in any freely available curriculum. It's also notable because it mentions the cemetery activity which frankly scarred me, lol.

it is our inquisitive nature.

If you have a high IQ, you probably love to learn, and dont buy into the bullshit that other people buy into.

I have a natural curiousity. I question everything.

And yes, I was in special gifted academics. I scored 97 - 99% in every subject.

Yep, but for the record, I didn't post here before this thread or visit this forum really. Not to say that I wasn't on other similar types of forums from time to time. I would say it's inquisitive nature and preference for outlier thinking. At the least, it's watching people trying to see beyond various veils. At the most, it's comprehending what makes them tick or sharing an observation.

I came here because of a weird memory (I'll dig it out of my diary and copy and paste below). It was in a classroom setting so I asked in here. Other than that, I was part of the program and I keep getting dragged back into the thread :)

I agree that the more they manipulate the general population through media, the more I feel like the general population is distanced from me because I can't be bothered to follow along with their madness.

Excerpt:

"A little earlier on, when I was about ten or eleven years old, we lived directly across the street from a facility for a while. My guardian would give me a juice box and then send me on my way with clear directions as to what office I was meant to go to. The reception area was crowded and it appeared to be an extended hours general medical practice. I brought a friend there one time when I was older under an order to, I’m not proud of that one. I would sign in with the receptionist and eventually I would be waved into the back. I stopped and saw the doctor a couple of times, but mostly I just headed down a hallway to the left and in the rear of the offices, got into an internal elevator, and went up to a higher floor, I want to say that it was the fourth, but I could be off by one.

The floor I went to appeared to be under construction when you first emerged from the elevator, but a short walk and turn around the bend showed activity. There were children in rooms with beds as if they were in a hospital and there was a medical examination room that I often started my day there in. Further down the hall there was a room for auditory education/testing, and to the right there were some larger classrooms buzzing actively with children. I don’t remember a whole lot from after we sat down in our desks in the classrooms. Most of what I remember were the introductions, the beginning of assignments, and everyone chatting before class.

What I also remember was getting lost. I would get lost intentionally to see the children that were in the beds and to take a peek into other rooms. I was allowed to get out of the view of staff because the water fountain in the classroom hallway was indeed under construction. Before “class” I would get lost on my way to reception sometimes and just sit in a main hallway of the building looking lost until someone helped me to the floor with the classes. I would get lost a lot at the end of class. Other kids had parents picking them up, but I was expected to walk home on my own. As the drugs would wear off I would forget that I had been given that instruction and I would stand there alone, confused, waiting for a parent that wasn’t arriving, and wondering where I was. We exited the building on a different side than I had originally entered, and since I only ever saw that side of the building when I was medicated, I didn’t know what it looked like when the drugs wore off. I really didn’t know where I was; to me I had awoken in a strange lobby, not knowing how I got there, where in town it was, or how to get home. Eventually a security guard would help me and show me the way home which was just around the corner."

as with most programs & organizations you'll find some who benefited from it, others who were abused by it. changes over the years it was in place. errors that were corrected but never addressed. rogue off shoots tweaking the system for their own benefit. shining examples of why it was ever attempted in the first place that exceeded all expectations & horrible cases that justify criminal charges & possibly shutting the whole thing down.

see also: religious groups, scouting, camps, businesses, & basically any time you get more than a handful of people in a room & they start to establish pecking order.

interesting how we end up here.

it is our inquisitive nature.

Me either - this is the only thread I've visited here and don't visit forums like this at all. But, curiosity and a search for what happened made me start digging.
