They state they are from the heartland of America well the people of that part of the country have alot of problems with the farming industry, livestock issues, etc. but folks like myself who have been affected by the downturn in the auto industry do not need them driving around with that foreign piece of crap picking out our junk. Quoting: apolloguy 8611750 I'm with you, how much cooler would the show be if they were rolling in an Astrovan. |

Quoting: lapis lazuli 847343 Apparently people roaming the countryside offering cash for other peoples belongings that are rotting away in the back yard is now a symbol of the downfall of Western civilization! LOL! As for the other show on the history channel called "pawn stars" I like that one too. I find it very interesting when people bring in and what's worth a lot of money and what's worth almost no money. Plus you sometimes get a little mini history lesson in there. Geez! You people will find just about anything to cry about and rally around and pronounce how it's the most evil thing in the history of the universe Well said, the programme is great! Are they robbing people? Get real folks!!!!! That stuff would just sit there rotting but if they Sell it for a price they are HAPPY with, they can spend the money On something useful! If you don't like the programme, simple, don't Watch it! |

WeEvenSaveStupid User ID: 9315181 United States 01/21/2012 10:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OMG, I am absolutely floored. Everyone of you people who are on here are yelling about general commerce? Are you for real? Plus on top of all things your on a website called God like productions and your all cursing, yelling and being just absolutely moronic..and for what reason? Because you idiots forget that we are a nation that was built on commerce. The deal is only as good as the people involved think that it is. If dudly doright thinks that 450 is a good price for something and they guys end up getting a good payday out of it then so be it. The people they bought it from would have not had a penny if the guys had not purchased it. So something is better than nothing. Half the time there climbing over and under rotten wood, floors, through tunnels and into rooms and barns that no one had been in for years, sometimes decades. The next time you go to a baseball game and pay 7 bucks for your hot dog and another 9 dollars for your beer..... think about all the 8 pack of dogs that are at the store for 1.25 for the WHOLE PACK OF 8. Value is and always will be in the eye of the seller and until the United States decides that everything is going to be free or were gonna start horse trading again just because you dont wanna hurt someones fealings over a rusted piece of equipment that is really worth 100 bucks more than they paid for it. Heck for that matter I got ALOT of stuff Id like for you to buy... at FULL PRICE ,feel free to hit me up. |

How many of you really believe these "poor old people" would have even sold those things?? Do you REALLY believe Leland was going out to dig those things out of the barn to have a few more bucks in his pocket??? Oh!! Think he may be on our WONDERFUL SS system and getting $ 300-400 in income a month? I think, compared to Pawn Stars, they are honest and fair. They have even increased the offers at times to the surprise of the sellers! Have you noticed them pulling out 1/3 of and old bike in the dirt?? And the old timer was going to do what with it rather than,"being robbed". Why don't you losers get a hobby for cripes sake! If their families think it was such a bad deal(or Elder Services) something would have been done. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 3006951 United States 01/30/2012 12:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not sure what episode or incident you are speaking of, but I just watched the show and witnessed Mike and Frank do an extremely noble thing. They had purchased two large carnival paintings for a few hundred dollars from an amusement park owner. The Pickers then sold the two paintings for $10,000, and returned to the original buyer and gave him half of their profits. This doesn't sound like someone trying to take advantage of anyone. In the same episode, they asked another seller what he would sell an item for. He told them $200. Mike told him it was worth more than that and paid him $500. You have to remember that television producers edit, edit, edit their taping. What you see in the final show is not exactly what took place, because it makes "good tv" and evokes emotional reactions. So much has been edited out that it can change the context of what really took place. |

I can't believe that these criminals give cold hard cash to poor elders while stealing their old treasures. A lot of this stuff should be left rusting away in their owner's garbage heaps and barns as the good Lord intended. How is it legal to earn money off the willing pack rats? |

nater User ID: 10310126 United States 02/06/2012 09:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think you people are wrong. American Pickers run a business, they pay people a fair price so that they can still make money off the things they buy and transport. They can't pay retail price on these items. They pay about half what they can make on the item. Then, there are people out there who don't know what to do with stuff they've inherited and it will most likely go to auction fetching only a dollar for items that the pickers are paying $75 for. If you actually watch the show, you'll see that when someone says you can buy that for 10 bucks, Mike will say, well actually it's worth more than that, I'll be honest with you. And then will give them a fair price. You guys are acting pretty violent for posting on a "godlike" page. I'm not much of a religious person, but I have morals and ethics. And saying things like 'I'd like work out a deal with them, i.e. to beat up the american pickers guys for robbing old people' is a pretty immoral thing to say. When in fact they're giving these "old people" some money to buy meds or other old people things. Think before you go ranting. There are much worse things in the world that deserve your attention. Like world hunger or terrorists. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 10467284 United States 02/09/2012 05:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I actually had a similar reaction at one point last night. When they bought that samurai sword for $200 I thought they were stealing him blind. Turns out the thing is only worth four or $500. Big deal. Quoting: lapis lazuli 847343 If they had Not gone in there, found it and rescued it, it's likely it just would've rusted away to nothing. Thing you don't realize is that most of these treasures they find are sitting in the back of somebody's yard or in somebody's barn rusting on rotting away. If they don't buy them and restore them chances are they will be thrown away into the junk pile. The idea that their kids or somebody is going to inherit this stuff and then restore it or what ever?nonsense. When kids inherit grandpas farm that's loaded with a bunch of old rotting rusty crap -- they throw it all away. That's what happens. Leeland obviously doesn't have the energy or the impetus to dig around in his belongings and put them up for sale himself. These people actually performed him a service by showing up with cash. Now you can probably afford another three months of high blood pressure medication or whatever. |
Rebuhg User ID: 4979566 United States 02/11/2012 08:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would just like to say that I think you are mistaken. These guys seem to enjoy huntiung for a piece of American history and many times rescue those pieces from darkness and disaster and ruin. I'm old - I love the show and think its great to share these pieces of Americana. They never break down a door or force anyone to sell anything. Why are you angry because people want to get rid of some things before they die? My children seem to have little interest in things I have saved from my grandmother etc. I am looking for people who will appreciate these things as much as I do and gladly part with them when I find them. Everyone benefits and precious pieces are rescued from the trash bin. |

They went BACK to the guy who they bought them from and GAVE him like 5k. That is honest to me. So I am not sure what you guys are talking about. That episode with the old man on the tractor that they ignored was a mistake, they even admit it on the show and felt bad about it. |

Armynurse70 User ID: 11254711 South Korea 02/22/2012 03:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I actually like this show and disagree with most the comments on here. They don't force anybody to sell a thing. They ask to see what people have that they would be willing to get rid of for a buck. They offer a fair price that is below market value (think yard saleing) and they try to make a profit off of it. In some episodes, I have seen them go back to the original owner and give them a cut of the profits. But then, I am sure that the original owner would feel cheated if they didn't. It gives people an idea of what their junk is really worth. Most people have no clue. A lot of the time, the stuff they buy the owner had no clue he had it, doesn't care about it in the first place or it will just rot away to the elements being uncared for. Occasionally, not very often, they offer more than what the owner thought something was worth. The owners usually contact them to come out and buy stuff, the driving around and looking on the back roads is a minor part in it. That was how they got their start, but now people are trying to downsize and get rid of their stuff. Frank happened to drive to my parent's farm and stopped to look around. He bought a few things (wish he would have bought more) and I got an autographed picture out of it. If you're reading this Frank, thank you... Family heirlooms? People don't sell their family heirlooms. Never seen it happen on this show. Mostly junk there. Frank and Mike work hard at what they do, they risk buying and selling (much like the stock market or gambling) and they make an honest living out of it. |

Now I'm stuck selling all the stuff on ebay pennies on the dollar. At least thoes guys give them 1/2 of what it is worth. Quoting: ehall 1091589 YOU ARE FORGETTING ONE THING THEY DONT BUY JUNK THEY BUY ITEMS THEY CAN MAKE BIG BUCKS ON NOT YARD SALE ITEMS TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT WHAT THEY ARE BUYING FOR PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR AND THEY DONT BUY UNLESS THEY HAVE A MARKET FOR IT ALSO REMEMBER THEY ARE BACKED BY THE HISTORY CHANNEL MAKING MORE MONEY DONT BELEIVE WHAT YOU SEE IT JUST TO MAKE MONEY THEY HAVE BOTH BECOME MILLIONARIES SINCE IT AIRED |
